good Review by Frank

I bought the crane to install on a large wood splitter instead of building a hyd lift. I put a small electric wench on it in place of the hand crank, put cable clamps on before using, put an extra grease fitting on the boom and found it to work very well. It picks up 3to 500 pound cuts with no effort and swings them onto the splitter beam--good to go. It would get 5 stars if had a lower grease fitting and safe cable clamps.

Very handy - but winch is the weak spot Review by Ken

Picked up this crane to pull the engine (6V53 Detroit Diesel) out of our loader, and mounted it directly to the frame of a 5 ton truck. The engine is out without any issues, but thanks to the other reviews I did put a safety chain on, for a back-up on the cable - during the engine extraction the cable did slip within the clamp (it did not come out completely) so without the added chain I may have had a problem. That engine is very heavy, I did bend the upper part (the pipe for the swivel) of the crane, but for the price I could not have asked for a better unit. I used the hydraulics for the lifting, they worked flawlessly. I had to use the crane in the 700 lb. position to get the reach I needed and I would estimate that the engine exceeds 700 lbs, so no complaints regarding the performance - but I would never recommend intentionally exceeding the manufactures load recommendation. I would agree with the other reviews though, be very careful with the clamp on the cable, and the winch rachet mechanism certainly showed signs of severe strain - the safety chain may have also prevented that from breaking.

im with mike on this one i was loading a 400lb toolbox in my bed when i went to remove it the clamp holding the hook to the cable slipped right out. it wasnt anything a quick trip to the hardware store couldnt fix now ive got two very tight crimps on the cable a 6 dollar fix. lucky the cable broke while the box was in my bed. for the money the crane was excellent just look it over before a lift or maybe cut the wire and install new cable crimps before you use the crane i dont think they will take responsibility for any damages.

Caution -----Warning Review by Mlke Swiderski

Just bought one and welded to my trailer. Loaded a 2.8 L V6 small engine on to the trailer --- worked fine. Off loading the engine was the problem --- the engine crashed to the ground causing major damage to it. The compression clamp holding the cable to the hook let go.
Looking at possible recourse for damages to engine from inferior performance vs advertised 1/2 ton capacity.

I installed this little crane on my dump bed one ton truck. Its been the most handy thing since the dump kit. I can pull the riding mower up beside the truck hook to it and sit it in the bed. The box dump is to high for using ramps. Thats only one of the many uses. I plan to put an electric powered winch on it soon. The manual winch is very good quality but need one for the boat trailer and just like things easy!!! Thanks Harbor Freight
