This trap is awesome, bought it on sale for about $6. It took exactly one week before a rat got trapped, now a day later it has already caught yet another one. Already paid for itself in my mind, these were large norway rats.

The key is to get it set up properly, it does not come ready to go. As others have noted it is possible for an animal to pop the doors open from the inside. The clamp on the manual door needs to be bent to ensure the door stays tightly shut. The catches on the trap door also need to be bent upwards to get the most locking power, bend a little at a time then test the door shutting mechanism until it fails to close the door. From there bend the latches back a little, this way you'll have the most locking power in the door (animal is least likely to escape) while knowing the trap will still shuts. Bait the hook by coating with peanut butter, it will make the animal play with it to ensure the trap goes off.

I bought one of these to catch a Chipmunk that got into the basement through the drier vent. Every time I opened the basement door to go down there he would be waiting on the stairs and take off when the door opened. I could not find where he was hiding, but I knew he was hungry. After leaving nuts and some water for several days to keep him healthy, I went out and got one of these traps.

I took a bunch of roasted unsalted peanuts with shells and used a needle and thread to string about 5 or 6 peanut shells together and attached it to the trip wire. I put mulch on the bottom of the trap so he would feel more comfortable walking on it instead of metal wires. I dropped a few more peanuts throughout the trap and two more right in front. Put a little peanut butter in there to give it more scent. 20 minutes after placing it I had him in the cage.

Where else can you buy a trap at this price?

We set this up the night before last. When I came home yesterday, we had managed to catch our first culprit. No problems at all. Cage worked great and you can't beat the price. It was a third of what I would have paid somewhere else.

Works great catching bunnies when my pet rabbit has a new litter. I would rework the bait/spring trap system. Works like a rat trap. Target nibbles on bait loosens trigger and spings trap. You will have to bend metal parts to fine tune it.

Have caught 4 small roof rats in the last 2 days with this trap. However, one of the rats escaped by jumping at the spring loaded door flap and got out....I know, because I watched him plow thru the door opening!!! Will place a more heavy duty spring on the trap tomorrow to prevent the great escape again...overall, good product for smaller rodents....p.s. used peanut butter extra crunchy on the bait hook...works ever time!!!

Needs very little tweaking to work great. For Rat & Squirrel size animals - not mice.

I tried this trap on small S. FL squirrels gnawing on my eaves. I caught two right away, only to have both break out as I approached the trap. The door clips simply will not stop a panicking squirrel, even of the small S. FL variety. Bought another brand trap and in three days all five squirrels I caught were released in a large wooded area away from any homes. It might be okay for mice, bit not anything much larger.

Spring that closes the door is not strong enough .. The tree rat just forces his way out. I bought 2 traps and tried doubling up the springs to no avail. Poor design.

Caught a house mouse fine, but he went right back out through the mesh. Needs smaller openings to hold on to mice after catching them.
