After having a Ryobi drill poop out on me and finding out that a new battery cost as much as the drill itself I was over Ryobi. I got this drill from my local Harbor Freight during a discount event. I love this thing! I cant say enough good things about it. My only dislike is the balance of the drill. It seems off with the huge battery.





Used this for the first time 2 weeks ago installing a dishwasher and some cabinetry. Awesome power and the battery lasted long enough to get the job done and work on some other projects the next day. I was able to use my dull hole saw blades and this thing powered through the wood I was drilling like butter. I would recommend this drill to anyone, even a pro!

Over the last 8 months, I have accumulated a collection of three of these drills. The batteries are inexpensive (B&D, Ryobi etc. 12V batteries cost approx 4X the cost of these 18V units) and hold a charge (based on the 1.3 ahr sizing) as well as can be expected. I have not experience any loosening of bits with these units, they have seen extensive use for drilling (up to 1/2 inch holes in wood), driving screws (mostly phillips head) and conterboring, countersinking in wood. The 24 torques settings are usful in driving deck screws into piloted holes, the higher speed (900 rpm) is better than some other units I have of the DM units I have with fewer torque settings at 550 rpm.





This drill unit is part of a complete family of cordless tools from Drill Master, that also imcludes an impact driver, 2 speed 3/8" Hammer Drill (For use in masonary) along with various saws and a sander. The are well made, relaiable and use a common battery all at a HIGH VALUE PRICE. I highly recommend these units and personally have 8 of the 10 different tools. The light and the spiral saw are the two I do not have, and do not plan to get since I already have these in other forms. The 5 1/2 in circular saw is the hardest user on the batteries, with the shortest useable time, but it works. Just remember, use the right tool for the job, and DO NOT try to make it do things it was not designed for, and you should be happy with the tool. I typically set up 3 different drills when building something. One with the drill bit, I with a countersink to debur the hole, and 1 with a drive bit to send the screw home.

I bought this tool along with a few others that all use the same 18V battery. I like the weight and the different torque settings of this drill. It compares quite nicely to my corded drill. I am very happy with all the tools in this family of Drill Master tools. All are well balanced even with the battery and perform quite well. There are 10 different tools in the set and I will probably get them all. One thing to note: With the exception of this 3/8" drill, NONE OF THEM COME WITH A BATTERY. I emphasize that because one or two of them do not say there is no battery in the description or the specs anywhere! It is kind of an unpleasant surprise, especially if you have ordered them to be delivered. I would suggest ordering an extra battery, it makes the job go so much smoother if you run low on juice right in the middle of a project. Don't charge the batteries much over 5 hours as they tend to get very hot. By the way, besides this 3/8" drill, the set consists of: a 5 1/2" circular saw, a jig saw, a reciprocating saw, a 3/8" 2-speed range vari-speed hammer drill, cutout tool (sometimes called a roto-zip or spiral saw), a sander, a right-angle drill, a 1/4" impact drill, and a great 10 watt flashlight. All seem to be more than worth their cost and all seem to be up to the demands a non-professional, like myself, will put on them.

I remodeled two rooms this summer. Bought the reversible hammer drill (#68169) for drilling concrete floor for tap con screws for the framing. It worked with no problems. Eats up the concrete. Got the impact driver (#67028) for driving screws in drywall, ceiling brackets, doors and some framing. It was a life saver, making the job much easier than otherwise. Bought the cordless saw (#67026) for cutting framing and trim. It too worked very well. Bought two batteries (#67029), and charger (#67031) and this timer ([@]) to charge them for three hours at a time. Tips: batteries run out fast if you run the tools constantly, but if you use them just as you need them they are reliable, e.g. cutting framing as you need it. If impact driver is struggling, it is because battery is weak, even if it does not sound weak. Charge for three hours at a time. Other reviewers have noted that longer charging ruins batteries. It took two months to finish my work, and these Drillmaster tools were a life saver and well worth the money spent. Very good tools at a very good price.

Second try at review. For coin spent ( sixteen) great value. Spend more-makes it a lower value. Only purchase with coupons or special sale. Cost increases are mostly due to increasingly poor exchange rate. Use it daily for assembling things. Not for heavy use in drilling or screwing. Impact drill does those things better. Entire assembly priced less than batterypack of other suppliers drills from same place of origin (B&D etc.). Before buying ANY drill, read source country- then shop price.

Works as good as any other drill just not as pretty. If you need a drill and don't want to pay top $$$$ then this is for you, what do you have to lose a half a tank of gas or a meal who cares you have 90 days to return it if you don't like it or if it's just not for you. Trust me you'll be happy an glad you bought this and your pocket book will thank you too. It will make you a loyal HF customer in the future.

Chuck Slips so best drilling use is with smaller bits. RPM is slow.

However, it has great torque. I bought the 19.2 1/2 drill and now this 3/8" drill is used as a screw driver, using hex bits. When using hex bits the poor quality chuck does not slip. Works GREAT.

As others have said, don't overcharge the battery.

If you really need to drill the 19.2V 1/2" drills are GREAT, good chucks and higher RPM. If you watch the sales there is very little difference in price.

this is a good buy for the money . certainly not comparable to the high end name brand, but seems to handle the light to medium duty jobs well. i used it to drill several holes on the masonry wall; it took a couple of minutes but was able to handle it.


the battery is decent, can last long enough for small projects. charging the battery is a little tricky; you have to time it well and can not charge more than 5 hours, otherwise it will overheat and kill the battery. i once charged ~4.5 hrs and the battery got pretty hot; so probably 3-4 hrs is good length.





overall i am pleased with this purchase.
