Very good pipe threader for the money. I used it for a full day threading probably atleast 20 pipes both ends. Held up pretty good. Wouldn't recommend if you were threading pipe everyday, but once in a while, I beleive this will work great. Very happy with my purchase, and you cannot beat the price!

The ratchet would disengage when any significant force was applied to the handle. This was because the teeth were partially filled with weld spatter and paint and the plastic collar on the ratchet pawl prevented full engagement. After some clean up with a file and shortening the collar a bit it worked well, at least on 1 inch pipe, I have not tried it on anything larger. Since I was able to get the job done and the complete set cost less than a single US made pipe die I would have to say I am reasonably satisfied.

I've used this on all sizes of blk pipe, and it gets the job done, but it's not a joy to use. You'll need a good chain vise bolted to a solid workbench, some dark cutting oil, plenty of elbow grease and a generous supply of patience. You need to keep backing it off, clearing the chips and re-oiling the dies, and the adapter the give you for the smaller dies keeps falling out. I recommend you buy their smaller set and just use that handle for the small dies--the big handle and the adapter together are too heavy and cumbersome when you're trying to thread small pipe--and those extra dies will come in handy. These will wear out. Fortunately you can buy industrial grade replacement cutters that will drop right in.

You won't be able to thread anything shorter than a four-inch nipple at the smaller diameters and about six inches with the 2" die. Look at the depth of the throat and consider how much you need to clamp in the vise and that's your minimum length. You can cut shorter nipples if you use an internal wrench to hold it, but unless your cutters are super sharp you're going to break something.

I would recommend this to someone who knows what he's doing and needs to thread pipe on-site. It's a lot easier to get your pipe threaded at the shop, but that's not going to work if you need to put some threads on a section of busted condensate return that's sticking out of a concrete slab. Sometimes you need to bring the shop to where the pipe is. For the price you just can't beat this tool, and it works.

It makes a nice thread on the 1-1/4in and smaller pipes. But if you need to turn more then one 1-1/2 or 2in thread take it to your local hardware and enoy a cup of coffee while they do the back bereaking work. The larger thread cutters do a decent job of cleaning up old or damaged threads. Do not forget to use the cutting oil no matter how small the job.

The old ridgid 111-r needed new dies so I opted the cheap route. I was surprised it held up to 1 1/4 pipe and threaded rather well till the ratchet gave out. Thing went out on final 2 threads and busted knuckles on the vise.

For the price it cut well for about 10 sections of 1 1/4 on old steamer lines. Was cutting in final pices for unions when it failed.

I dont suppose most homeowners would subject it to that, and would probably serve them very well.

Have to back it up consistantly. Also must continualy clean thread area while threading or itll bind quicker than snot. I found with heavy oil it made it simpler.

Purchased set and threaded some 3/4" gas pipe. 3/4" die worked halfway decently. Then tried threading some 1 1/4" gas pipe. Die threaded somewhat O.K. on first thread, but then would not thread another no matter what. Teeth in die moved with wrong taper now and nothing would work to thread a 2nd piece.

Returned and exchanged set for another and had the exact same experience with second set. I already have their smaller set which has dies for 1/2", 3/4" and 1" which work fairly well and I have threaded pipe in all three sizes with this set. I bought this larger set simply for the larger pipe sizes which the set failed miserably when it came to threading any of the larger diameters. Finally gave up and returned set for a refund. I used to work as a pipe fitter and threaded pipe on job sites for a living so I had plenty of experience threading these sizes of pipe and larger. The dies in this set were a piece of junk. The dies themselves too would fall out of ratchet, which before long also broke.

After a few uses the ratchet broke. There is a parts list in the manual but you cannot get parts only the dies. What's the sense of having a parts listing when they don't have parts available.

Housings that hold thread cutters are not mold casted well . Cheap METAL not good for important job. Will chase threads if your in a bind cost wise.
