This works very well BUT you MUST have many times more CFM than specified. I have 15 CFM and it is just adequate. This is typical for this type of tool. You must also have dry air, not moist or wet, and you must have adequate hoses. You must keep it oiled. This means a refrigerated dryer or at least a long piping system with proper sloping for ambient cooling/drying. You can't expect to hook this up to a small compressor with an ordinary hose and have it perform. It is not like an impact wrench or hammer, it is a high speed rotary tubine that needs prodigious air. It is tiny and will reach and cut through thick metal where nothing else will, but the tiny size means it takes a whopping big air supply. Cutoff tools like this, disc sanders, grinders, etc., all take huge amounts of air and can't be used with any but the largest compressors HF sells. Don't expect to buy a little 120 VAC pancake compressor and have it drive this type of tool.

I knew getting this even before it started getting reviews that it was going to be weak given the size of the motor. A full 1/2hp motor or even 1/3hp would make a would of improvement.

You can't go fast with it. 90psi, and asjust your cutting according to the load.

I bought it for cutting welds, nuts and bolts, and getting into places my regular cut off tool would not fit. It has done well for me.

picked this up even though the reviews were poor. first thing this sucker needs cfm more then 4 as rated on the box. i would say dont buy this if your comprssor will not make 10 cfm @ 90 psi. running this thing on the shop compressor 150 psi 31 cfm. runs great has simular power to the regular cut off wheel. its not a power house will get the job done though.
First things first
through away the cut off wheel it comes with get a quality one!
dump a bunch of air tool oil down it HF most of the time dose not pre lube the air tools
grease the angle head.
run the cut off wheel free load till the oil clears.
your ready to go!
cut 1/4' steel well

Good tool, just wish it had a little more power before you had to start over grinding or cutting.

Tool is a copy of a great design, it has so little power it is uselesss. if you have used a normal cut off wheel you will not like this one. It can only cut light sheetmetal and is slow at that.

This tool is a piece of junk. It is however very safe, as it won't cut anything. It stalls as soon as you touch it to the material. Do not waste your hard earned money buying this junk!

I bought this thing with quite a bit of ambition, and was recommended this item per the local salesman at the Vineland NJ store. I told him I needed enough power to cut off bolts to remove 22 benches out of a school bus, and he recommended a $50 cut off tool that ended up jamming the instant I put any pressure on the bolt. The air compressor was rated 4 CFM and the cut off tool supposedly was rated 4 CFM as well, but I think it was way underpowered or the cut off tool was poor quality. I went to another hardware store (different brand name) and they recommended I use an electric angle grinder instead for $40, which has proven invaluable and quite powerful compared to the $300 setup (including the carcinogenic rubber hose that was sold to me) from Harbor Freight. Besides all this, the air compressor was incredibly loud and is not suitable for residential use. The quick connect sockets were locked into place and yet they felt very loose and leaked a significant amount of air. There genuinely was no stronger/more secure way to connect them without an obvious hissing noise.I told the cashier at the store that I was sold the wrong product that could not have done the job I was explicit about (incompetent salesperson?), and they said it was corporate policy about the 20% restocking fee for the air compressor. Nobody told me it was 20% and said either I pay the restocking fee (upon return) or I pay for a warranty ahead of time. I thought maybe a $15 or 15% restocking fee, but it was 20% which came out to $40 (for a $200 air compressor)! The 'warranty' actually cost the exact same amount so I fail to see why they give you a choice, either way you pay the same amount. I am incredibly dissatisfied with this Harbor Freight (Central Pneumatic) junk as well as the general corporate policy. I will never step inside a Harbor Freight or purchase some generic brand for a store when it's just cheaply made in a country that this website won't let me say because it's supposedly 'defamatory'. It reminds me of the junk at [@]. I'm sticking to American name brands going forward.I would warn anybody to not buy a whole air compressor kit just for one tool that very easily could be underpowered unless you spend $300-500 on a powerful air compressor. Think carefully about what an equivalent brand name electric tool would cost.On top of all this, the cut-off tool is much less powered than their angle grinder, and yet the angle grinder is half the cost. Unfortunately, the angle grinder uses a CFM the 26 gallon air compressor I was sold would not have been able to power. No wonder the cut off tool jammed.

This tool stalls under ts own weight it is gutless it might cut plastic but I doubt it.
