I use this to smooth out edges, level furniture and even sides on wood, smooth rough wood...sand paint, smooth burs, age wood, round corners, really anything that deals with wood :)

It has not failed me since I've had this 2 months ago. It is now the most heavily used Harbor Freight tool I've ever bought. I used it to sand at least 30 pieces of 2"x8" pine wood. No problem. I bought 80-grit sanding belts from HF too and they worked just fine. I suggest to those who are having issues with this product to get a replacement if they still can.

I've never used the dust bag but I've used the adapter to connect my portable vacuum cleaner to suck the dust as I sand.

I didn't buy extended warranty since I figured I can just buy a new one if it ever breaks. It's more than paid for itself already.

I used the belt sander on my 12' x 25' deck (51 - 2"x6") and it worked flawlessly! Cost was the biggest factor for my purchase and I was very satified with the power and ease of changing the belt. I recommend using the higher end sanding belts, as the ones I bought at H/F when I bought the sander didn't perform as well.
I DID NOT use the dust bag, so that wasn't a factor on this project.

Originally I was going to buy a mid-grade belt sander with a bigger brand, but I saw this and thought I'd give it a go.

This is a fantastic product. VERY powerful. With a course grit, you can plough 5mm off at a time. This is not a tool to use for fine finishes, but for smoothing out big gorges this is the tool for the job.

The belt is easy to fit and stays on. It stays perfectly in the center and doesnt move.

OK, the tool looks cheap - its basic plastic and doesnt have fancy rubber on the handles; but for the price and performance I can forgive the lack of polish

This belt sander is comparable to units costing several times as much. With the correct grit paper you can work some magic with this tool.

Works great for hobbiest wood worker and home owner use. I can tell the motor won't last long if you put a lot of weight into your strokes to increase pressure. However, if you need it to strip or plane wood just get high quality (ie. 3M paper, not Harbor Freight) sand paper and let it do the work for you.

It also is very good at catching dust.

Easy to use and a great value. If you don't use a dust bag your lungs become the dust bag. So dust bags use one.

Purchased about a month ago, and have only used it once so far. Using the 80 grit belt it came with, used it to sand the edges of some 2X4s in a workbench opening. It removed the material quickly and left a very smooth surgace. It was a lot easier to powition and move than sanders of this type I have previously used. Very pleased with the product/ As to,e gpes bu. amd I get more experience and use from it I will update. So far every product I've purchased has been a very pleasent suprise. Quality is better than expected for the price of the products.

This sander was the first tool I ever purchased from Harbor Freight and it sold me on the quality of the power tools at this company. It sand beautifully and has great power for heavy duty jobs.
