I don't know why other reviewers have called this trap "thin and flimsy", it seems pretty strong and durable to me. (They must be either trying to catch cats as dexterous as monkeys or racoons as strong as bears.)
I just reinforced the back door where it meets the sides with some zip ties (trash bag ties would also work) to "lock" it place. Maybe I'm just really naive, but I just can't imagine any animal that would fit in the trap being strong or smart enough to get out thru the trap door once it springs shut.

I bought the trap specifically for raccoons that were causing a problem. The trap worked but did take some getting used to. The trigger/pan takes way to much weight to set it off. I worked on the catch and helped it alot. Also lost one raccoon because the the clip the secures the release door will allow enough slack to release animal. I would not recommend this for cats.

I USED THE METAL BAR AND PUT IT THUR THE BACK DOOR SO THE ANIMALS WILL NOT GET OUT . I KNOW IT SAID IT WAS FOR THE GROUND BUT THAT'S NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING BUT LET THE ANIMALS OUT. IF THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE ARE REFERRING TO.

will not hold a racoon i am a trapper with florida FWC i will not use it for my traping but good for a kid

Witnessed 2 raccoons enter the cage --- one after the other. Trap goes off, success.


But wait, 1 coon gets out - then 2nd coon squeezes out.


Just glad they got out before I put them into my car to relocate.


Probably too big of a trap for a coon. Too easy to push the door open and squeeze out the bottom.

Caught 3 feral cats fine (took them to the vet and released). Then caught a huge orange tabby and it was able to pull the trap door back and get out. Glad he wasn't mad at me! The next two I caught got out the same way.



It appears the trap door was tweaked at the bottom by the pull of the tabby. It has about an inch clearance where it can be grabbed. I have done some work with pliers on it so it seems better and will test tonight.

I had to return the first 2 I bought. Traps didn't go off and had an open house for stray cats. The 3rd trap finally worked but the cats figured out it was a trap so I had to camouflage it and put some stinky food so they would come in and get caught.

Just isn't built well enough to handle a racoon or panicked cat. It will rack enough to let a strong animal pull the door in and undo the wire wraps that form the hinges. I've spent a fair amount of time looking at it trying to see how to beef it up and pretty much given it up as a lost cause. There are too many weak points to try to correct them all. A real disappointment to me and my chickens.

this cage is not strong enough had a wild cat run right through the door. I reinforced it and found that another animal broke the chain flipped the trap was able to get the bait out.
