I used this to pull a loaded 2800 lbs cargo trailer backwards up a slight incline. Winch worked fine. I did not see any of the loose hardware or quality issues mentioned by other reviewers but I only used it one time so far.

One thing is the the description says it has a 10-foot cable, which is accurate, but the cable doubles back through the pulley making the effective max cable length closer to 5 feet.

I read all the comments on these come-a-long's and the first thing I did was replace all lock washers with some quality lock washers and added some flat washers and then applied some red(heavy-duty) loctite to all bolt threads including the little bolt for the stop pawl trigger.Then I pulled out all the cable and sprayed it down with some teflon silicone lubricant.I read one review where it was said that the side welds on the spool broke so I might be mig welding the spool if that happens to this one,no big problem for me,I can fix that.I think this is worth every penny I paid for it from a piece of paper cut out of the Sunday paper ads & I would recommend this come-a-long.

I own this puller for 2 years now. No negative complaint from my end. I've use this cable winch puller for pulling tree stump and certain metal realignment during a recent car accident. For the price, you can't beat it.

These are as good as, if not better than the ones sold in the major stores at triple the coupon price. As other purchasers pointed out, application of threadlocking compound is essential (also a great deal at HF!) My best purchase so far, since locktite is no big deal.

flexible, useful setup, just love these things if you use them in single cable mode... just use two in single mode.


buy four 4cars or six or eight4bigtrucks... and your set to trailer down the road in 2 minutes or 5 mintues!

I had three of these and they work as well as they should and are fine value for the money. Care needs to be taken to keep the nuts tight.

Broke this trying to pull stumps out of the ground. Actually broke the inner housing because the cable forced outward pressure on the internal drum. This broke the welds and cause the binding the previous poster described. Took the item apart which was easy, and completly welded both side plates to the inner tube. Stronger than ever and works great. Be careful that you don't get one made of pot metal as they are not as easy to fix.

First off, buy some loctite. This thing doesn't stay together on it's own.


It does get the job done for the right price but it is a pain to get the cable out unless you have three arms. To get the cable to release you have to manually hold down two spring loaded gear catches so if you don't have the cable attached to something it cant be done.


Aside from those two issues, it works. But if you are going to be using it frequently you should probably get a better model.

I installed a chain link fence and it worked great, no problems at all, I then tried to use it to tighten down a chain and the cable snapped and the cable was not even tightned all the way down.
