This is my first auto dark helmet so I can't compare it to other brands but if you are using an old conventional helmet do yourself a favor and throw it away and pick up one of these.

Getting the tension set just right so you can flip the helmet down with the nod of the head is a thing of the past. Can see clearly before the spark to get your tip set correctly and then weld away. Hard to see with the initial spark but I believe its my eyes adjusting and not the product because within a second I can clearly see what I am doing and how well the pool is laying. For beginners this is a must have and for old timers if you don't have one yet you should because this thing works.

I use this thing for all my welding needs, at work and at home. It performs as well or better than helmets I've used that cost 10 times as much. It's pretty durable, and its cheap enough to own more than one if other people are involved in your project. I would recommend this to any one that's wants an automatic helmet. It makes welding a lot easier when you can see what you are going to weld immediately before striking an arc.

I use this helmet for nearly every fabrication or repair that would indicate welding. I use it exclusively whenever my work would be more difficult, were I to task one hand with frequent flipping.

This is precisely the type of tool that makes work so much less of a chore that I have more time to do more of it.

im a full time welder and use it 6 days a week. im certified flux core 3g welder. THIS HOOD MAKES ME ALOT OF MONEY. i have used mine for 2 years and still going. . more light wieght than the expensive ones. stays on my head 8 hours a day. this thing has not broke yet. for any diy, this is perfect.

RECOMMENDED BY WELDING INSTRUCTOR. WORKS AS WELL AS MORE EXPENSIVE UNITS. SMALL WINDOW BUT SIZE IS OK ONCE YOU GET USED TO IT. BOUGHT SECOND THEN THIRD FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO WATCH. GREAT FOR SMAW, MIG, TIG, ETC. ONLY CON IS THAT THE HEADBAND NEEDS CARE WHEN ADJUSTING. PLASTIC BAND WILL BREAK BUT CAN BE EASILY REPAIRED IF SET TO JUST TO ONE SIZE. VERY SATISFIED. GREAT PRICE FOR STUDENT ON A BUDGET.

I used to weld a fair amount, although not remotely at the professional level. I still had my old flip-down helmet, but now that I must wear reading-glasses to see I often knocked `em askew when I flipped the helmet down. HF's budget auto-darkening is a joy in my situation. I can't address long-term use, but I've had it for about five months now and it has been near perfect for my use – light auto repairs/projects, amateur steel endeavors and home-hobbyist undertakings..

I've had several helmets over the years and accidentally dropped my low end 3M auto darkening helmet, breaking the head adjustment mechanism. I bought this just to get me by until replacement parts came in the mail. I was pleasantly surprised of the quality of the helmet. Fast darkening, comfortable, nice (although on cheap side) adjustment mechanism. Replaceable plastic lens is a nice plus. I have 4-5 hours on it so far in one afternoon and its working great. Very impressed Harbor Freight.

I inherited some good welding equipment from a dear friend. I have trouble striking an arc. With this helmet, I can see what I am doing just before the arc. This a great tool for beginning welders

I finally purchased one of these after borrowing a standard welding helmet from a friend (non auto-darkening)
After using this auto-darkening one, I will never use a standard welding helmet again. I welded up an entire demo derby car using this helmet
