This product appears to be well made with good fit and finish. It appears to me that some (if not all) the negative reviews are written by disgruntled tool dealers (you know, the ones with the big red trucks) who think HF is cutting into their biz. This tool is not aimed at the professional mechanic, it is for the weekend DIYer who doesn't need the kind of equipment they sell. The heart of this tester is the gauge, and good accurate gauges are not that difficult to make, hence the low price of this unit. As one poster noted, there are multiples of some of the adapters. This is to allow you to make up different adapters so you do not have to remove the quick disconect from one adapter to use it on another one. I didn't read that in the manual, I just figured it out myself.

Worked well for me on my 1.6 VW diesel. I did the compression tests several times and the results were consistant. I think the gauge is good enough for basic testing.

Got it to work on Benz diesels, works great- can be tricky to fit properly- lack of space dictates creative use of the adapters. I don't work on heavy trucks, so this kit works great.

i bought this to do a compression test on my 95 powerstroke.. the kit had an adapter that threads into the glow plug hole but you cant hook the gauge to it. not even close.. the adapter needs to be like 3 inches longer.

Even though the instructions say one of the fittings is for the Ford/Navistar 6.9/7.3s in reality NONE of the fittings work. The indicated fitting has the correct threads, but the probe is way too thick to fit into the glow plug hole. It is not even close. It's unfortunate Harbor Freight didn't test this unit before releasing it as the Ford IDI is one of the most common diesels out there and the word is out in the enthusiasts forums that this unit does not work.

Purchased for diagnosing Power Stroke. Would not fit in glow plug hole. I wound up cutting in half and brazing a piece to make it fit. BEWARE, these adapters are BRASS. They look like steel, but they are not!

Turned down two boats because I though the compressions were low. This thing is 20 lbs off a d complete junk. ! Pretty unhappy about losing a great boat opportunity over a bunk product.

I purchased this at the store (should have went online first and checked the reviews), and it states on the package and the instructions that it works with Ford 6.9L and 7.3L IDI diesels, but it does not. As a previous posters mentioned the ford adaptor threads do not reach (it is not necked down like the glow plugs are and can not be inserted far enough in to grab the threads). I considered chucking it in the lathe and modifying it, but should not have to. It appears to be of average HF quaility: functional but not perfect. Also, the one that I bought did not look like the one in the picture, the one I recieved had multiples of the same adaptors. One star because I never got to even try to use it, and Harbor Frieght should address the problem.
