This works ok it gets the job done. Accurate as long as you give it 5 seconds to calibrate itself. Used it to chef rpm on my lawn mowers atached reflective tape to flywheel screens. This is a photo sensing device if you are outside in the sun it work Poor. Inside of my enclosed trailer with the doors open it works great! Also it has a working distance of about 8 in. Great for checking rpm on lawn equipment and such I do recommend this

Bought this to help tune my chainsaw since it said it was good up to 99,999 rpm and the saw is only around 14,000. I put the reflective tape on the flywheel as indicated, started the saw, and aimed the tach like instructed. The tach needs to be within a few inches to work and even then the rpm's varied from a few hundred to 6000 and everywhere inbetween. When I revved up the saw I could not get a clear reading, again anywhere from 10,000 to 18,000 at wide open throttle. Since the saw needs to be tuned to right about 14,000 rpm or it will cause engine damage, I can't rely on this tach for my needs.
