Great kit requires some common sense apparently few have. Do not blame the kit for over-load damage. Asian & European wheel bearings will have a greater interference fit by design than most USA. Rust belt owners will see the worst case scenarios. Understand the WELL LUBED heat treated forcing screw/nut can apply many pounds of force due to it's fine pitch thread but all threads have a limit. Some seized stinkers may requie 40 tons (80,000 pounds)or more.. likely damaging the threads. In all cases if required you need to tighten the forcing nut/screw BY HAND (long breaker bar) only close NOT TO the materials YIELD point..then STOP. You need some other way just to BREAK FREE the seized bearing so this tool can then move it out of the knuckle. Proper striking, heat, cold,& cussing all can help. Rarely you may need to use a shop press with rated capacity. Protect your eyes & body from possible ballistic shrapnel of hardened bearing parts or any hub/steering knuckle pieces shattering/liberating. If you are unsure, stop & seek an ASE and /or well experienced mechanic. JP

Both the rear wheel bearings in my B5 S4 went bad, and instead of buying the Schwaben kit from ECSTuning like I should have, I bought this one from HF. I must say the first wheel bearing I did with it went great. Took me 3 hours doing it my first time without removing the hub at all off the car (AllData calls for 2.5hrs). When I went to do the second wheel bearing on the passenger side I noticed the tension got very light very quickly. Didn't think the bearing could of come out that fast. Take the nut off the end and it all falls apart from the backside. Apparently, the high quality Taiwan factory that manufactured this ironically branded U.S. General kit has slightly lower standards than we do here in the U.S. The threaded rod, INSTEAD OF BEING A BOLT, is not only a very very poor quality of metal, but also has a cap nut threaded to the top and then has a plug punched in to keep it from coming off.Maybe wheel bearings in Taiwan don't require a ridiculous amount of force to remove, but here in the U.S. they do. I would of expected for [$] that I would have been able to finish the job, but nope....Everything else in the kit was kind of nice though.

Worked like a charm...

Comments about U.S. General Front Wheel Bearing Adapters:
Replaced rear wheel bearings on my 2001 E320 Benz. I am an ex-mechanic so I don't need instructions on how to use this tool and it could be a bit challenging for an average DIY'er. I was a little skeptic about the quality and strength but it pulled those bearings out nicely with a strong impact gun and a little tapping around the hub. Saved a great deal of what the dealer quoted. Now I am selling it since I don't need it anymore.

Just what the Dr ordered!

After struggling with a VW FWD front bearing that just wouldn't budge, I bought this as a last ditch effort before sending it to a machine shop. I used never seize as a lubricant on the drive bolt. less then 10 minutes the old one was out and the new one seated in the right location. It just took a little muscle to get the old one to break loose. I know that this will be one of my tools that will be loaned out to friends and family

Well worth the money.

About Me Former Dealer Tech
I have used this kit several times to replace many front wheel bearings. (Lube the forcing screw before and during use!!!)The only upgrade to this kit I made was that I ordered the forcing screw & nut for the OTC HUB TAMER part#'s OTC311881 & OTC503052 from[@] ($45). Now this kit works exceptional with the high grade forcing screw. Even with the addition of these parts you should wind up way ahead saving hundreds.Or spend $450 -$650 for an OTC HUB TAMER/GRAPPLER kit or a SUPER HUB SHARK. One side job and this should pay for itself.

Works great after a little upgrading

About Me Mechanic
The pieces are well made with the exception of the forcing screw and nut; these should be upgraded by the user if this tool is going to be used often. The original forcing screw is 3/4-16 fine thread. It appears to be made with low carbon steel. I purchased a piece of Grade 7 plain/oiled heat treated threaded rod along with a grade 5 nut. I cut the new threaded rod to 12 inches and welded on the new nut. I also purchased a grade 5 coupling nut as the original one appeared to be made of mild steel. This new combination, along with oil on the threads, is very durable. As far as the lack of the instructions, you can to the manufacturer of the HUBTAMER and download their complete user manual and it will give you details as to how to set up the tool for the various types of hub bearings. I went so far as to measure the HF parts an engrave the HUBTAMER part number on the HF parts so that it would provide a quick reference when using the HUBTAMER setup instructions.Hope this helps; and remember to use safety glasses when pressing out the bearings.

I bought this tool set to replace the front wheel bearings on my 2005 ford focus and it worked great i couldn't be happier. It is very important to grease the threads with an extreme pressure grease or you will ruin the threads on the pressure screw. One thing i like about this set is the pressure screw is simply a bolt and nut so if it does strip you can easily replace it but be sure to use a grade 8 standard or a 10.9 metric bolt.

Worked great on The Evil Rust Belt Subaru's front wheel bearings.Use bearing grease on the threaded shaft. No instructions but if you can't figure it out then you shouldn't be using it in the first place.
Works great and worth every penny!

The only issue you will have with this tool is the one you create like not removing the bearing retaining ring. I successfully used this kit to R&R rear wheel brarings on a 3 series BMW with ease!
Just Pick This Kit Up Today
By CaliforniaDad

I just picked this kit up today to remove and install new front wheel bearings in my 1996 Acura Integra. This made my job so easy, removing and re-installing the hub and wheel bearings went better that I thought. Kit has many sizes so I put together a combination and worked great!!!
Worth the price and cheaper than a press

Easily pressed out and pressed in the new wheel bearing on my Ford Focus. Some words to the wise: spray some PB Blaster around the edges of the bearing where it sits in the knuckle to help loosen things up before trying to move the bearing. Also lubricate the hell out of the screw and forcing nut. There is a LOT of friction and tension involved (presses are usually used for this service for crying out loud). Not lubricating first is a sure way to wreck the screw and nut. Also smear a thin coat of grease on the inside of the knuckle before pressing in the new bearing. Do these things and the job will go smoothly. The storage case could be stronger but thats it.
