I bought this helmet about a year ago. I use it every day and it has been flawless. I am going to buy another one for my wife, so she can get into the welding game a little bit. I have used other helmets and I havn't found one that could touch this for the price.

Lets face it, if you are shopping at Harbor Freight, you aren't trying to do anything professionally. I bought this as the average do-it-yourselfer, and this fits the bill. Protects my face from airborne molten metal - YES. Auto darkening work flawlessly to protect my eyes - YES. What else could you ask for?

I've been welding 45 years and this is my first auto-darken. it is light weight and sturdy.
What amazes me is how fast it can darken and lighten. I was able to weld, chip slag and grind without ever touching my helmet, or take it off and put goggles on. Well worth the money. Buy it.

i have used for mig welding and its absolutly amazing. im just curious has anyone used the mask for oxy/acetyle for welding? if it to dark to do it? if so whats recomended

I never welded before in my life. Bought a welder with this helmet all on sale with cupon. I don't know what a 200 or 300 dollhair helmet would do, but this helmet works great. It darkens right when you start welding. I do most of my welding outdoors during the day, and it darkens only when I am welding. It may darken slightly when I get a high glare in my face, but quickly adjusts. I like the grind function so I can see what I am grinding. All the knobs works well and hold the helmet in place down or up. It's also very comfortable. My first welding project was to make a welding cart/table from discarded BBQ pits. Great practice!!!!

Started basic welding class and couldn't see thru the helmet provided by school! Bought this one just before my next class and it worked right out of the box!Why buy a $200-$300 helmet when this one does the job!

Looking at this helmet side by side with $300 helmets, I can't imagine why anyone would want to spend that much on practically the same thing.

I'm welding 250' of iron railing, and I love wearing this helmet. Fits well. Comfortable for all day use. And the auto darkening works in a flash (literally).

I understand the super expensive ones have more sensors, but so what? This helmet has never failed me. I believe the expensive ones also have a much wider range for the auto darkening so you can use them for a wider range of welding needs. I don't need that.

There is an "off" setting that says "grinding," but I don't use this for grinding. You can't see what you're doing.

I was going to peel off the flames, but I left them. Not that snazzy, but they don't bother me anymore. And it's about welding, not how you look welding, right?

I will say this helmet seems a WORLD better than the other one HF has for $10 less. That one seems cheap, and the dial feels like it would fall off with light use.

Wait for the sale and get it around $39!

I bought one of these about three years ago and have used it for about three 11 pound spools of wire. This helmet worked flawlessly and is so much nicer than having to flip down the helmet or shield every time you strike an arc. It just died on me and I went to HF the next day and bought another one. The nice thing was that it gradually quit working and didn't just completely stop. I was able to finish the project I had started that day. The new one actually works a bit better. Even works well in the cold. Money well spent.

We use one of these in the auto shop where I work at and it is fantastic! Ive had a different auto-darkening helmet in a different shop I worked at and it was hard to use and never really worked. This Chicago Electric one however works flawlessly! Its been in the shop for over 3 years now and I havent had an issue yet. And this thing takes abuse, from being bumped around under a vehicle or falling off the bottle on the welder. The lens darkens quickly and is just light enough to see with it on when you arent welding (might need a drop light in darker conditions). The only real problems I have had with it is the coverage. Its a little bulky down by the chin and if you are welding under something it is really easy to gets sparks to land on your head. Also the headband sometimes comes out of its little bracket, but all you need to do is loosen the headband, snap it back in, put in your your head and adjust it.

I wish I had a HF closer to me so I could go and buy one myself for my shop. Guess ill be stuck buying one online.

I've had this helmet for 3 years now and I didn't take the best care of it. But it doesn't matter, cause it still works like the day I got it. it's really dirty but that's my fault. it even came with a replacement lens cover. works better than a m iller that my friend had borrowed from his welder friend. I tried both and I couldn't see near as well with the mi ller. Buy it while it's still cheap
