1st thing I had to do is tighten and apply locktite to every bolt, 2nd pollish the ways, 3rd replase visual scale with an interchangible ruler (standard, metric, or whatever kind of ruler u want to use). I enjoy taking stuff apart anyway so I was kinda sad there wasn't more to fix! Perfect vise for the price!

out of the box it has very rough mating surfaces which made for pour travel


take the thing apart and sand all mating surfaces with at least 240 grit sand paper and slightly round over the edges, lube the parts and put back together

To make this vise remotely usable you have to first take it apart and file down the bottom of the adjustable way holder. When you put the securing plate back on after filing, it will pull the way holder to the surface. Then you have to go buy some 3/4" wide bar to fabricate 2 new ways(1 each axis). The ones from the factory are drilled wrong and do not allow the vise to sit flush. After those two modifications you will have a somewhat usable vise.

The ways on the lower table were not parallel by about 1/16. Had to spend several hours grinding and filing one side so that the gibs didn't seize. OK for cleaning out mortises and cutting grooves, although the cut for a long groove can wander. If my time were worth $10/hr I didn't save anything against a $200 domestic table, and I still have to contend with making the X and Y motions perpendicular.

to get this to work I had to tighten it on the ways so it would not jump around. Still very hard to use and I was machining plastic. With some modifications it may work but not great

X axis binds, preventing travel without loosening and retightening gibs...completely dismantled and re-machined virtually every surface to make square and parallel on my Mill while improving the 1/16 inch out of parallel to .001. Junked the vice jaws and re-manufactured the bearings adding .045" to thickness. Permanently mounted a Forster barrel vice after machining the top of the Bitmoore to allow this...Now functioning more like the designer intended, I can't help but think this tool was machined on a drill press by a flunky with a Bitmoore instead of a mill! That being said it was a fun rewarding project and a useful tool now setup in a dedicated bench drill press, freeing up my mill for other duties.... When I have more time I may make new acme screws and nuts in 10 threads per inch instead of the metric thread to remove the remaining backlash!

This thing is horribly un-precise. If this had a guide bar(like HF 6" X-Y vise) guiding the jaws, it would be absolutely amazing. The screws under the left moving jaw constantly come loose, which in turn, will move the object your clamping with the jaws up, every time you need to tighten. I would recommend anyone to spend a little more and get a good X-Y vise as opposed to this door stop.

First of all: Milling with a drill press is not a good idea in the first place, the bearings in a drill press are not designed for lateral loads so you'll wear them out rather quickly.

With that said, this vise is not up to the milling task anyway, and it's as crude and clumsy at they come. My major gripe is that the ways are not dovetailed, so the slides can move vertically. There's no way you can do any precicion milling with that. It took several hours to polish and adjust the gibs to make it move smoothly, all the screws are loose fitting and have a rough plating, the jaws are sloppy, there's no way to adjust the backlash and after fooling with it for a while I stuck it under the workbench. It sees occasional use as a simple X-Y table for drilling, but it's far from the precision vise it's advertised as.
