This product would be great with a few improvements. It is comfortable, I can adjust it for the project I am working on, and keeping my hands free is a great feature. I have bought perhaps as many as 10 of these, though, and they all seem to have the same weaknesses.

1) The bulbs, the way they are made, cast a shadow, the light is not full.

2) Bulbs don't really last all that long, and though the unit comes with 1 spare bulb, when that is burned out as well, the unit is useless. Info on bulb type, number and where to buy replacements would be great.

3) Battery compartment cover comes off frequently. Not cool if you are out in the dark night, and the cover pops off and the batteries slide out and disappear in the darkness. It has happened to me. I have somewhat remedied this by putting a stout, small radius rubber band around the cover to hold it in place. It should be redesigned to eliminate this problem.

As I live an hour away from the nearest Harbor Freight, I cannot run out and get a replacement light everytime these problems occur. They really should not exist.

This is lightweight and the straps hold it securely on your head for hands free working in the attic, under the car, etc. Light is pretty bright and can be aimed nicely. The only drawback, once the two bulbs that come with it are burned out, you won't be able to buy new ones readily. Harbor Freight and Radio Shack don't list them, and even if they did, I suspect they'd cost almost as much as a new headlamp. I'll go with the LED model next time.

Comments about GORDON Headlamp with Swivel Lens:

Replacement bulbs are available. Unfortunately, most local stores will charge you almost as much for a two bulb package as you paid for the whole headlamp assembly. Online pricing CAN be MUCH better, but you will need to search. Can't quote a source here due to the rules. The bulb part number is T1-2, a kryton filled miniture lamp and is used in two AA or AAA cell, small, thin flashlights. The bulb specs are 2.5 volt, 430 ma, bi-pin mount. Yes, I realize the batteries are 3-volts, but the bulb is designed for it. Bulb life is only about 20 hours and the original bulb source (stating the country is forebidden-strange) version may be less so have some spares handy.

    Second Purchase

    By hdps99

Comments about GORDON Headlamp with Swivel Lens:

I returned my first purchase 6 months ago because the rubber odor was so bad that it gave me several headaches. With good reviews, and it was on sale, my second purchase turned out good. The rubber odor is just a little bit. You can focus by turning the big round knob. If you loosen the big round knob, there's an extra bulb inside. Thanks to previous reviewer, Craig, for pointing it out. It's swivel, hands free, comfortable to wear, fair light and inexpensive. If you want brighter get led light.

This lamp is comfortable and so far the elastic has remained tight. The beam has been satisfactory for looking around in my crawlspace.

Not bad at all, but a little top-heavy. You have to keep fooling with the adjusment. I like the blue LED type better.
