We live in a dry climate (high desert in california) and added them to the xeriscape in the front. They look wonderful at night when placed by a rock or near a plant plant. Because there is little moisture we haven't had any problems. They've been there over a year.

some of the comments on these units are not quite accurate in terms of problem causes. It is very difficult to short these units out or for the leds to burn out. It is also almost impossible to keep water out of these type of units. Condensation will get in. These type units fail due to rust on the battery contacts. Seen it a hundred times. Second problem is not necessarily the quality of the batteries, but the charging cycles, especially if they are using ni-cads. If the units fail, the first thing is to flip the switch back and forth a few times, rust on switch contacts will kill the unit. I've been able to fix solar lights every time by cleaning the battery contacts and replacing the battery. Sometimes the battery just needs a good charge on a plug-in type charger. The yellowing, which they all do unless glass, can often be fixed by polishing off the top layer just like they do with auto headlights. The biggest issue with these things is you can't get at the battery compartment. I bought 16 of these things, all worked perfectly. Will see how long before they rust up or battery fails. Then I will try to open it up by prying off the solar cell. btw, I am an electrical engineer so I sort of know what I am talking about. In any case, they are about a third the price of similar units which probably have the exact same problems.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that these solar pathway markers shine a bright light, brighter than the solar post markers I had bought elsewhere. And the light lasts longer too. I have these illuminating the steps to my house. I have purchased eight, so far, and will buy more when I see how they survive the winter. I have no complaints, so far.

In Southern California they last about a year. I have had them for a few years and now buy the warranty. When they go bad I take them back. These work great and can go in many places. I call them my landing lights.


To improve these make the batteries replaceable.

Update to my previous review since it could not be edited.Each of the 4 in the set I bought half dozen years ago have charged and do flash/steady light after I switched them on during the day to see if that needed to be done first to get power to the battery. Still don't know if that was the answer or if they just needed to be put out a 2nd sunny day after being boxed and in a closet for so long. Quality is lacking, no doubt, since the plastic LED lenses on 2 of them were either foggy or crackled. Judging from other reviewer experiences these going unsealed like I had done to my first set might mean all will fail after a year but maybe that's worth the cost if so. I just can't recommend these particular ones with complete confidence, unless you like the idea of getting many years from at least one pathmarker if you coat all crevices with silicone sealer like I did and use it in a sunny location. All in all, I can give them 3 stars at the $35 to $45 price considering I used 3 in fairly shady locations and only now replacing a couple.

I needed to make my boat visible at night to prevent drunken fishermen and partiers from accidentally hitting my boat. I anchored them onto the deck and sealed with silicone caulk. They were set on blinking and the average span of time they was 5-7 hours, after 3 years I replaced the batteries. the one mounted on my tiller bracket functioned well even though it often got water condensation inside (not salt water)love these units!!

We had family over during the holidays and a guest fell outside on our entry stairs. We were very embarrassed and wished we had installed lights when we had the hard scape installed. It was not cost effective to tear out the steps just to add lighting.

On one of my husbands many Harbor Freight shopping sprees,meh came across this fabulous product! He used cement screws and construction adhesive to put those on the riser (face) of our stair trends. These provide the perfect amount of light and no more embarrassing falls.

FIVE STARS BUT WOULD ONLY LET ME PUT TWO!!!!!!!!!!!

love HB tools but this one needs a better design, better to cap the top so water don't get in. Maybe change the aluminum molding? to pricey for a one year failure. bought 2 sets and 2 from each set failed this winter. only would recommend if HB allows trade of faulty lights within a year of purchase.

Both sides of a 200 foot driveway. Looked great when new.
When the first rains fell, they stopped working one by one. Out of 36, almost half have stopped working.
