I recently used this to run it in my main sewer line which has been an issue for me over the past 10 years. Particularly in spring and fall I get a lot of small hair type roots. This machine blasted through them with no problem and removed a huge amount of roots. I can see the roots by sticking a mirror inside the pipe and they are now gone. I bought the machine for routine maintenance and I will run this little blue guy every 3-4 months! It already paid for itself in that 1 use. I'm sick and tired of calling plumbers that charge a minimum of 200+ to clean my pipe and send the snake in 1 time and done. I was able to work my machine nice and slow and take my time in getting the results I wanted! I rated it 5 stars because of the price! Thanks HF

I spent hours trying to unclog my drains with manually snakes without much success. I used this tool and within 10 minutes my problems were solved. This tool is inexpensive and well worth every penny. I highly recommend it for solving your drain problems.

I used a 50 ft 1/2" manual snake for nearly an hour, first from my cutoff, then from the street side, and I couldn't break through. I bought this and literally saw all my waste water draining thoroughly in 10 minutes. Awesome feeling! I recommend this highly!

After a plumber came out snaked my lines and told me that he couldn't unclog my line and my whole line needs to be replaced at 5100 he even ran a video line in to show me what he called roots... I decided that I would buy this unit. 15 mins later my lines were unclogged and flowing great again. I did get it tangled as I tried to force the line in too fast but I backed off untangled the line and started again with no issues. I'm not sure how anyone could kink this line where it was unusable as this was my very first time using it and the line will twist as designed but doesn't seem like it would ever kink.

I use this product to clear out the line between my property and the City line. It works great and guess what? It works on roots. My neighbors tree roots intrude into my line and I have to clear out the line annually. This unit works as well as the units I have rented from the big rental companies. If you have problems with the cable kinking, you're not using it properly. Just go slow and take your time. You can sense when it starts to kink. It means that you've hit and obstruction or you have too much slack. When it kinks, stop the unit, work the cable in and out, pull in the slack and start again.

I used mine for the first time today. Got tired of paying the drain cleaning companies lots of money. First I ran the bulb through and then the arrow cutter. When I got done, I found that arrow cutter had removed a glob of thin roots! The key was to feed it slowly and keep the drum moving. I had the cable wind up on me several times from having too much of the line out of the drum while it was spinning. Just stopped and reversed the direction and fed back in. I'm very happy with it so far.

I bought this drain cleaner to clear out my main septic line. It worked great and had the drain flowing in a matter of minutes. I hope I don't have to use it a lot, but it is nice to know it's there when I need it. As with every purchase from HF, I used the 20% off discount.

1/2" dia 50' steel cable with wire core center and 1/3 HP motor. Cable is very strong if used to clean food, grease, hair, and other non-root blockages. Even the more expensive RIDGID K-400 is not designed for removing tree root. The full enclosure steel drum is heavier and prone to corrosion if not drained after use and sprayed with WD-40 or equivalent. Metal is still the best if you can live with the additional maintenance.There is no belt-tensioner, but motor's base can be raised to compensate for a worn belt. One of the four bolts securing the motor to the base was not tightly secured, and the motor's shaft was not perpendicular (off by about 3 degree) to the belt. It took less than 5 minutes to loosen the other three bolts to re-align the motor.Without a reset button on the motor, one must wait a few minutes for the internal thermal protection circuit to reset in case of an overload. I didn't encounter any shut down problem running the motor for 45 minutes over a period of 1.5 hour. The motor's case is only luke-warm to the touch. There is plenty of torque to spin all 50' of cable inside a pipe at ~150 rpm. The cleaner runs smoothly and quietly if one allows the cable to roll out of the drum at a rate of 1 foot per minute.I aimed cold water at the cable during retrieval to keep it clean, then tilted the unit over to drain the excess water and sprayed all around the inside of the drum with WD-40 to lubricate the cable and drum.There is no need to buy a unit with the auto-feeder. The cable will have a tendency to roll out at a rate of 1 foot per minute if there is no major pipe blockage. A manual feed gives the operator better feedback about the tension in the cable and the blockage down the pipe.I plan to purchase a 5/16" dia 50' steel cable with wire core center to supplement this 1/2" dia steel cable. This smaller cable will be used to clear smaller pipes.
