I have had two of these safes for about 10 years now. Have replaced the batteries once in that time, but have had no issues what-so-ever with them.

Only drawback to this sort of save is that a thief could carry it out the door... For securing guns and household papers these make an excellent choice.

Decided to review. I was browsing the site and noticed some people complaining about batteries. This makes me laugh. Most people don't realize even their "rechargeable" batteries have a life expectancy. I've had this safe since 2007 and for [$] I paid I couldn't be happier. The original batteries lasted for 2 years and weren't dead but as a precautionary measure I put some energizers in about 2009. They're still in there. The ONLY thing I have to say is if you want to mount this I remember having an issue with where the holes are. I cant remember if they're on the rear or the bottom but nevertheless I needed the opposite of where they were to put this in a inconspicuous location. Don't know if its "firesafe" but I don't care, if a fire happens this bad boy is coming with me :)

I have had my safe for 1 1/2 years now. I really like it for my guns and wills. I haven t replaced my batteries yet. Maybe some are defective that eat batteries. I bought one for my church and the batteries have been in it for 7 months now. I realize that an experienced burglar could break in fairly quickly but I believe most people would not try to break in. A very good safe for the money.

Still using the original batteries I installed, in it the day I received it.

Bought this in safe in 2009. Reading reviews I note that the complaints about batteries were in 2011 reviews. Perhaps manufacturer changed lock supplier. When I changed batteries (just because) the originals (I used brand name) were still working fine. As far as emergency keys, mine came with 2 keys, which were lost when we moved, but I contacted HF Customer service, gave lock code and for a small fee received replacement keys in about 2 weeks. Bottom line suits my needs.

I mounted this unit IN the wall; drilled some holes in the sides, bolted it to the studs, and replaced the drywall around it. Used four 1/4 x 2 inch lag bolts from the inside to mount it. It is in a closet out of sight, and keeps lots of good stuff safe. For the price, it is well worthwhile. Oh, I bought mine in 2004, and in 2013 it is on it's 3rd set of batteries! No complaints!

I picked this up at the local HF. It is a great deal for a safe of this size. (Trued a Stack-on PS-514 but it was dead on arrival so returned it). This SAFE is MUCH better built. Heavier, the door is noticably better secured. The key is a tubular key so it is not easily picked at all! This is a big plus!! I am able to get three handgunds in it and the clips and some ammo. I wish it had a shelf but then my pistol rack would not fit so its all good. I did not like the beeping with the keypad but all you have to do is take off the back cover and disable the little speaker with a pair of pliers or similar. Better than stack on or Sentry by far for the price.

Had safe since 2005,am now replacing batteries for the third time(Oct 22, 2012), secret- use non rechargeable batteries, they are a full 1.5 volts, rechargeable are 1.2 volts, this system is very voltage sensitive. Never had any problems. Note, if you want to make it a lot tougher to break into, remove the original lock and install a case hardened lock from a commercial vendor.
