I picked out this safe before I picked out my handgun! I trust this safe to open every time, and it has not failed me once! The spring loaded door launches open every time! I don't know about the problems others were having, but I don't use generic batteries or used batteries. I used duracell because I want my stuff to work! Don't blame the device if you don't want to pay to power it properly! Love it and will buy at least 1 more for the car, and maybe another one for the wife.

So far I haven't experienced any problems stated in the other reviews. I have had this for a few days and after cycling the lock several times in a row I have not had problems. At first, I used an older 9v battery to power it (it tested ok in my tester) and apparently this product needs a new battery. The old one just made it click when I put in the code, no release of the door. Once I put a new battery in though it worked every time. The code is easy to set and easy to input quickly if need be. Overall, I am very happy!

Bought this today primarily to make my wife feel better about having a gun in the house. Installing the batteries was a little problematic but after I got through that setup was just as outlined in the manual.

As of right now the door has popped open every time I entered my code and all seems well. I will update if it ever fails.

The safe was purchased in June 2010 and installed it in my SUV. It operates as described with no issues. I would have given it a 5-star but, probably not worth paying full price. I had a 20% of coupon.

I bought this and got a decent deal on it. I was disappointed to find that something was wrong with the electronics. It kept eating batteries. Evertime I replaced them they would only last a few days. The batteries are also VERY difficult to replace. it takes several AA batteries and its very difficult to get them all into the assembly, connected to the wire and put back into place. I eventually just gave up and started using the manual lock. Its still a pretty strong box- I use it only for storage - not for "quick access". I went out a bought a different box for that.

I thought these things were great, until I watched someone pick the tubular lock. The locksmith popped the lock in maybe 15 seconds. The locksmith then asked a boy of about 10 if he wanted to try, and the boy popped the lock in about 30 seconds with only a little instruction.Tubular lock picks run about [$], but I no longer have much confidence in anything with a tubular lock.

I use this near the bed as a quick way to secure my sidearm. I intended to and may use it mobile in the vehicle bolted down for when I need to secure something in the vehicle.

The only real problem that I've run into is the really poor door design. You can see from the picture that the lock loop interferes with sliding a gun out blocking the fluid movement or banging into it. You must lift it up and over. The hammer guard on my 1911-style sometimes gets caught in the lock loop if I pull it too far and then it can't even be lifted up and out. This is more likely to happen at night or in an emergency of course.

I contacted the manufacturer but no response. I suggested they should put a recess for the loop, move the loop off the door, or place a plastic ramp ahead of the lock loop so you don't bang your sidearm into it or get stuck and it glides up and over it.

I bought this safe for quick access to gun.


It does not work as advertised.


It fails to unlock safe through digital keypad 6 time out of ten. When this happens I need to use the key to open it before the keypad will work properly again.


It is not a code issue, definitely a mechanical defect in the lock mechanism. For a life or death situation where I need to get my pistol ASAP i cannot trust it. I am going to exchange for a new one tomorrow.


Check the safe thoroughly when you buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
