8 Lb. Splitting Maul with Fiberglass Handle

It works. Split some pretty gnarly logs too. Feels a little funny at first if your used to a hickory handle - sort of flexes when you come in contact.

Bought this maul a few days ago. User above was correct about head being too wide. My complaint is that, just from one use, small cracks have formed on the whole length of the handle. Not sure if it is safe to use it again or not.

I bought this maul because the price was almost $10 less than a maul at another hardware outlet. I was disappointed, however, to find that the maul's cutting profile is too wide, making it too blunt, and it does not easily bite into the wood being split. I've toyed with the idea of taking a grinding wheel to it to make it narrower.

The maul works well enough, and the handle is secure with the head. However, the maul head itself is brittle, and falls apart when used in conjunction with a sledge.

The above statement from product description did not hold true with my axe.... Not only did the handle crack it shattered approximately 10 inches off the handle from the head down, exposing the core.... I am not a lumber jack by any means but I expected more from this product. Additionally the head is too thick and does not split logs very easily

well this is one of those things you should just leave at harbor frieght if your aserious wood splitter. I heat with firewood and saw this for a low price. thought i could usean extra maul to splitter larger logs ( when you wedge in a couple at a time). anyway withing 3 onths the head came off as the material holding the head on came undone from the handle. now it did split alot of wood prior to breaking and I split wood every week for a few hours at a time. so maybe i overworked it. either way this should not be your primary splitter.
