This caliper came just as accurate as stated (+/-1 .001"). The added functionality of having fractions (down to the 1/128") and Millimeters (down to .01mm) make this a must have tool! It also has a very smooth movement allowing me to adjust it .001" at a time with very little effort.

I couldn't think of a better tool to have for this kind of money. This is my first Pittsburgh Brand product and I am very impressed. It even comes with a carrying case that secures and protects it very well and a spare battery to boot.

I just built a project requiring extreme accuracy
(0.025mm) but it was all in metric units. I happened upon this, the only one in the store, and it was marked down. I bought it, used it for my project, a gear- advance box-joint jig, everything worked, and I am happy.

I just used it tonight to set the projection of chisel and plane blades on a sharpening jig and got it right. Happy, happy.

OFF and Automatic Shut-off doesn't work most of the time. I have to take the battery out after every use. I would still buy this one again.

I have a great "vernier" caliper from several decades ago when I worked as a mechanical inspector. But the eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be so I need something much more readable, and perhaps not quite as "quality" for woodworking in my own shop.

This HF model came up on sale and I thought I would give them a try. On first use and with several measurement checks they seem quite accurate. But, I'm still not sure I would trust them to doing precision inspection of parts, like my verniers. For what I need them for now, these appear to work just fine and I can read the display with ease!

I looked at six calipers of this model and most appeared to have some grit and the jaws did not close properly. This particular set however seemed to be clean and accurate. Therefore, I suggest anyone should check before taking them to the cashier.... just close the jaws and look for any "light gap".

This particular model offers metric, inch, and fractional inches to 128th. Perfect for my shop.

They don't slide perfectly smooth, but good enough; and as you run your finger along the blade you can feel some slight burrs at the edges.

The unit comes with one LR44 battery installed and an extra in the case. The case itself is plastic with a stiff foam-like liner, cut-out to fit the caliper. Nice feature, but I wish they had marked the case so you know which side is the top. It would have been a nice thought and would have looked better than the piece of tape I used to mark it.

Instructions (if you need them) were pretty decent. Overall this is pretty intuitive though. There are buttons for on/off, zero, and for unit of measurement selection. Also a lock screw for holding the caliper measurement in place.

I'm wondering about the battery life, but time will tell. It does shut off automatically after about four minutes, but there is also an off switch.

Oh, I almost forgot, on this model, it does hold it's settings. For example, if you have it set to a particular measurement and the display goes off, that particular measurement will still display when you turn it back on.

A good buy I think.

Mostly metal construction. Easy to use. Automatically turns on when the jaws are moved. Auto shut off.

Movement a bit rough. Jaws slightly off parallel; had to go through several of the stock to find the one with the best alignment. Found one that differed no more than .001" between inside and outside of the jaws.

This is a fantastic value.

Suddenly a digital caliper is THE solution to measuring challenges for carpenters, woodturners, router users and other measurement-critical activities normally performed in fractional measurements instead of decimal points.

The only flaw is a battery-compartment door that's easy to lose -- but that's easily fixed with a bit of electrical or duct tape. This excellent tool is a winner in every way -- even if it wasn't so inexpensive! You'll wonder how you ever got along without (at least) one.

For home shop use in which the tool is used only periodically for projects not requiring reliable high precision these would be fine if the screws and screw heads weren't stripped out making it impossible to disassemble them to clean out the grit and hone the sliding surfaces.
