I bought a set these caving tool took them home opened them up and found that they dull as can be and I like my grind on all my chisels to be about 20 degrease but they are not so I had to grind them to 20 degrease. after all that they work pretty good!!

as others said out of the box the edges are poor, not sharp and crooked... with a lil work on my belt sander they went from trash to near perfect,, my fault on not being perfect not great at sharpening chisels.. they take a edge nicely and hold it for at least one carving i do at a time,, i still run em on the belt in the middle of jobs and between jobs to ensure easy and accurate cuts... really for the price im very pleased,, the handles are junk but gives me a lil side project make some nice hardwood quality handles and buy another set of these chisels to swap the metal out as they get too short or worn down.. bottom line, if u want a inexpensive but very shop worthy smaller set of chisels pick up a box i might grab two more sets when i go to HB again this week

When I opened the box I found that the metal had a rough finish(60 grit) and the cutting angles were off and edges not at all sharp.The saving grace was that the material was as advertised-high carbon steel(about 1090) and it was heat treated.Using three different power machines and diamond hone(all purchased from HF)I was able to put a very fine edge and correct bevel.Tried them,they peeled wood as I expected.If they had been that sharp out of the box, I would have rated them a 5 star.All in all a good buy!

I thought I could do almost anything, then I met this tools-Oy Vey! I wrote out a nice name in fancy letters, I tried to use one, nothing! I even used a Jewelers-hammer, it still didn't help, they were just to dull, so I was going to take them back, but with the price of gas-I'd lose. So I'll sharpen them. Thanks also for the other comments, even for [$] they should have been sharp and so I'll just sharpen these myself. At least Harbor Freight gives a lifetime warrenty on their tools, that's why I come here, they work with you.
