I have been using this to replace old sheet metal panels on my classic Mustang. Runs good, but the smaller 120 volt unit seems to heat up after about 15 mins of continual use. You need to make sure the metal is extreamly clean (rust/paint) free or it will not work right. Also it helps if you use vise-grips to clamp the material so it is close to each other. Time to hold the heat on depends on the thickness of the metal you are trying to weld. I would like to see longer or wider tongs so I could get into more areas. Overall very pleased with this purchase.

I have used this unit for many small jobs and have found it to be a good investment. Most of my projects are made from galvanized sheets and I have had absolutely no problems using this unit.


A friend owns a collision shop and he has gotten me replacement tips from his supplier. They come six in a package. I don't remember the cost because I haven't needed any recently. But they weren't expensive.

I build semi automatic Kalashnikov rifles as a hobby. With a different upper tong, this welder is great for welding the lower bolt rails. I only have a 1" opening to the internals of the receiver. I have to make 9 welds in this small space.

My son didn't think much of this welder when I first brought it home. I welded a couple of saw blades together and asked him to try and pull them apart. Needless to say he was impressed. He has shown it to his friends and one of them bought one for use on a stock car.

I restore Vintage Buddy l, Steelcraft, Keystone and other Toy trucks from the 20's and 30's. May of these toys are missing fenders or have broken spot welds. In the past I would tig these parts, and spend the time to make the welds resemble a spot weld. I took a chance and purchased the spot welder . Set up was quick and easy. My first repair was to replace a missing fender on a 1921 Keystone dump truck. The repair took 10 minutes. If I would of had to tig weld this repair it would have taken 1 hour to weld and grind the welds. Very pleased with this purchase.

This little spot welder will do the job you need it to do. It works well on stainless but is a bit heavy for some applications but worth the money.

the hole for the upper arm pivot was drilled over size i put a shim to correct that. the rocker armthat move the upper arm need to be grinded with out doing this ir is impossible to propely adjust the locking nut. it took me 30 mn to fix those problems.

I bought this in 2005 and it worked pretty well for 2 years with casual use before it shorted out. I was able to find and repair a wire of the coil in the transformer unit which had shorted against the case. It woorked well until last week 12/2011. It started blowing the circuit breaker and smoking. I took it apart but could not repair the coil which shorted out internally. I'm not sure but I may have over extended its duty cycle. These do not have a thermo protect switch and the coil is insulated from the case so you don't know when it's getting warm. Just make sure you do not overdue its duty cycle! I would not recommend this to anybody that plans to use it a lot.

Decent welder for the price, "standard tips" are not carried in the store, or on the web-site, and dont seem to be the same "standard tips" carried at the welding shop.

So, now the welder is useless.

I never got to use this: worked when I bought, it sat in the shed for a year, I go to use it and is dead. 122.8 ACV from socket, 111 at switch and 90 at the tongs...

We use this spot welder to weld galvanized barnstars. The tips wear out and have to keep sharpening them. Used to purchase them for $5.19 each and then after a couple of months the price jumps to $7.77 each. Anyone know where to purchase tips for this welder?
