Hard to get going but I was able to get it to work with 30 amps neg DC. Press top sheet with electrode, so two pieces are together, for 15 seconds or so, then pull electrode away let arc for 2-3 seconds and break away. Good luck

Used to make practice spot welds on a fender patch. It did ok, It does work backwards so it is hard to get use to. It uses arc air rods so it will burn a hole if keep the arc to long. I used a lincoln AC cracker box @ 40amps. I also spot welded a collender for my wife. It came out well. Ok for [$]

I bought this spot welder for a project that required limited space. I was able to spot weld 22 gage even thought it is recomended for 18 gage or thinner. It operates backwords. You must pull firstthe trigger, ease into spot weld then pull off to brake the ark. It also leaves a rusty area around the weld. Despite having a very high quality arc welder for power source, I was unable to attain the proper arc to develope a decent spot weld. higher or lower amperages made little difference. the electrode either stuck to the top sheet or burned through it without effectively bonding to the lower sheetmetal. Tried 18, 20, and 22 gauge sheetmetal with no good results.

I was never able to to create a functioning, quality weld using this gun with the HF 80 Amp Inverter Arc Welder (item#91110) to weld two ~20 gauge sheets. With the current set high, it burnt through the top material. With it set low, it weakly fused the sheets, such that they could easily be pulled apart. It was very difficult to control the arc and most attempts resulted in tripping the current limit in the welder. Perhaps with many days of practice you might get the occasional good weld.
