I bought one of these when they were on sale with a discount and I've been thoroughly impressed by it. I always found drill presses easy to use when using them for school projects in the shop and wanted my own. This was the chance to get a quality stationary tool for my own bench, and it was worth it. The motor is strong and quiet. The speed is also quite high on the default setting, when I tried to drill a block of wood to test, I went too slowly and it left burn marks. Great for other materials though, probably best to lower the belt for wood.

The main reason I bought this was for circuit board drilling. I make a lot of home-made PCB's and drilling the precise holes was always a pain with a hand drill. This press makes precision holes easy and even hold the tiny bits I use without slipping.

This review is just after setup and some trial runs so I may amend this or log a new review later. The setup was very easy. The chuck insertion seemed to be a sticking point for some but was very easy for me. Some report wobble and I have virtually none. The unit is quiet and powerful enough for my purposes but I have not yet tried it with sanding drums only drill operations. So far I am just thrilled that I can atain a higher level of precision than I can achieve with my hand drills. I will primarily use this on smaller more delicate and precise work but will occasionally need to "hog" some material away. As others have said I think if you get it set up right and go slow and let the tool do it's work rather than horsing it you will appreciate the results. Great tool at a great price point! Bought on sale.

Purchased this drill press after reading all the positive reviews. When assembling I made sure to use loctite on all screws, and lubricated the moving parts, has proved a great machine! I purchased the sanding drum kit and it has made this an even more versatile machine!

fantastic drill press,for all the wood work i do around the house for my fellow Veterans,and the next thing i plan to get if i could affort it one day is a Milling press for the metal work i do on the side on my other tools,like modifing my vise,making brackets,and other tools

I have had my drill press for 9+ years. It has done everything from metal to plastic. It was the primary drum sander for 7 years of Pinewood derby cars for an entire den. I used this drill with some guides to drill over 200 holes with a 2" forsner bit for custom Oak rosettes for my home. I recall that I payed ** with free shipping for my original, and recently when I saw the price of these drills drop I picked up a second one. I plan to set that up as a permanent drub sanding station for multiple small projects I do.

I've had this little drill press for about 7 years. I've used it to bore holes in wood, metals and plastics.


Get HF's little drum sander kit and use that to deburr metal parts before welding or smooth edges on wood and plastic projects.


I have even used it to notch thin wall tubing using a bi-metal hole saw and a drill press vice.


As for changing speeds, I've used presses that cost much more that you had to open up and manually move the belts to change speeds, so that is not even a concern.


Bottom line...if you're on a budget or have little space and need a drill press, go buy this one. You will not be dissapointed.

Like everything else in life MODERATION is paramount. If you go to town plowing through materials with mediocre bits you will bog the motor down. I use very sharp bits and watch my plunge rate and this drill press does just fine for me and even handles 2 inch Forster with belt in slowest setting
