Very heavy tool, very rugged construction. I've owned mine since 2007 and have over 140 hours on the engine. Runs like a top. Changed the engine oil 2 times as per the manual. Wish list: An hour meter and hydraulic oil filters at reasonable price.

I've had this splitter for about 6 years and it is terrific. I split large qtys of wood three or four times a year to feed both our fireplace and a wood burning pool heater. I run the machine around 60% throttle and it slices through anything with ease. I've split green and dried white & red oak, ash, cherry and maple in large diameters that I could hardly flip upright under the wedge. The Japanese Robin engine and the US made hydro pump (Haldex?) seem to be a reliable combination. My only negative is that it's really heavy, especially when full of hydro oil, motor oil & gasoline. Rolling it across a soft yard by hand is a challenge. I usually move it with our quad. It arrived on two pallets and lifting the top portion onto the trailer section was tricky. Cycle time for the ram is slow, but that seems to be common with all hydraulic splitters. Also, the cost has gone up considerably since I purchased it. It's still a better deal than what I see currently at the big box stores.

i have owned my splitter for four years and use it to split a lot wood each season. It has always started easily, regardless of the weather and does a great job.

This is a really good log splitter. I have owned mine for quite some time at this rating and it is holding up well. It has a good engine that is easy to start with little maintanance. The hydrulics are good and are holding up well with no leaks or other problems. It is very easy to use and can be used anywhere. Id advise to take it easy when towing though as it could turn over if you hit a bump at highway speeds. I transport mine on a utility trailer to be safe. Good value, good buy and will split just about any log you want it to within spec. Most parts can be obtained at any hydrulic supplier although mine never needed any repairs to this point. Id recommend it highly.

Subaru engine runs flawlessly. The wedge was too small for the really BIG Missouri oak. Fabricated a 14" tall wedge with a slip on 4 way. This thing really handles the tough stuff. We split 6 cords per year. We've had it for 4 years now. You need to change the hydraulic oil every couple of seasons. I use Mobil1 full synthetic engine oil makes easier starting in the cold. Finding the correct filter takes a little looking.


The Good:


Nice heavy duty unit at a reasonable cost.


Subaru engine runs flawlessly.


Easy towing.


Quick set-up.


5" cylinder will split anything we put in it.


Everyone loves it.


The Bad:


Wedge too small for BIG stuff.


No 4 way that I could find.


The H beam bowed-should be heavier for a unit like this.


Could use a higher flow pump for faster cycle times.


Everyone wants to borrow it.

I have the 9hp Robin engine on mine and it starts every time, haven't found a log it won't split. Never had a loose or leaky hose. But listen carefully, after four years of splitting the pump stopped working, After checking it out found the coupling from the motor to the pump had strip the 3 cogs off each one. No big deal right, called Harbor to get new parts. They had only 2 sets left and no more where available. They discontinued my parts. So you might keep that in mind if your going to keep it a long time. Other then that it works great. I noticed they don't give you the name of the new engine.

AS others great tool leaks oil, all the fittings and filters need replacing.
