Dont let price fool you. This device will find it if its in the hole. I metal detect in parks, and I dont dig much anymore with this.It finds the smallest of screws, wire, tin or aluminum pieces shredded by a lawn mower, it is very sensitive. Can find coins very close to surface, why dig a plug for that. Face it, the very expensive pinpointer on your very expensive detector is just added weight, this works hands down. You can buy the books, and pay for the name on detectors and accesories, or you can get a great tool at a proper price. Makes a bad day into a good one. Dont leave home without this tool. If you didnt dig and just used this with your detetctor, you will still find more coin. A coin hunters must.

I just got this today for my metal detecting hobby so 10 minutes after receiving it


found 5 pennies and 1 dime in the back yard after using my larger one. Seems to work quite well i can tell you on a foot note i have heard the momentary switch will give out in a week or two sometimes but the MD will still work just replace switch and your in business again.

This device works. It is value for the money and a good partner for the 9 function metal detector. The detector will target the object and the probe will confirm its location. I haven't used the more expensive pinpointers, but this works fine for me. It helped me find a gold ring and numerous coins in lawns without digging holes. Just probe for target, insert this detector probe in a finger diameter hole and confirm-locate the object

Bought this because of the price and can't say a bad thing about it, except the switch. Do yourself a favor and go to radio shack and get the square on off mini switch that fits this machine perfectly and replace the one it comes with if your handy, or pay a buddy to do it, it's well worth it. Once you do that you have a $40 unit easy. Go further and quiet the buzzer and add vibration motor and you have an $80 unit easy, for about $20 total. Check You Tube for DIYs and how to's on this detector to see how WE DO....

Metal detectorist, you can spend $140.00 for a Garrett pinpointer. Yep, the Garrett is hands down a great tool and the best pinpointer. But for this price plus a 20% off, it does great. I did the cell phone mod with mine. cut that obnoxious speaker and wired in an old cell phone vibratory unit. No sound amigos, vibrates on a hit. The switch will need to be replaced soon. It will fail. $2.00 switch or rob one from another old toy. Keeping my headphones on and not drawing a congregation of people makes it worth it.

I purchased two and used them all of last year, plan to again this year. I use them to help locate my metal detector finds in the hole - as a pinpointer. Typical range of detection is 1.25" to 2" in the dirt. It's simple to use in the hole itself and to check handfuls of dirt from a hole. Although not necessary in the metal detecting hobby it does come in handy and I highly recommend it. The switch (on/off) doesn't last long but is easy to replace with a simple momentary SPST or toggle SPST switch. Also to save battery life I clipped off my LED as I hunt during the day. A great thing to do is take the wires off the speaker and connect them to a small vibrating motor. That way it shakes in your hand and you do not have to remove your metal detector headphones to use it. In other words it will shake/vibrate like a cellphone when near metal. You can get vibrating motors from cellphones or even Playstation 1 or 2 controllers, or buy them - I use the Playstation motor from a controller (inside are two sizes, use the smaller one) it shakes great and the battery lasts a very long time. Only problem is during the summer when it reaches 95F degrees or hotter the unit will not stop sounding off. The only trick is to use a cold pack (like found in lunch boxes) and wrap it to cool it back off to use again - or just keep it wrapped around it when coinshooting in the summer. Pros: This metal detector is VERY sensitive and will beep from several inches away. Cons: detector is sensitive to heat - if it sits in the sun for a while it will beep continuously and be unusable. Also, the switch lasts maybe 20 presses then is unreliable. Digi-key EG2045-ND is a close replacement. Despite these imperfections is is a great little unit.
