Upon reading some of the more negative reviews of this grommet kit, my expectations were very low for this product. I needed a way to attach a bungee cord to secure canvas tire covers for our travel trailer. I found that the tool to punch the hole worked flawlessly. I used an anvil from a bench vise as my working surface and it punched clean every time. I also found that the grommet's look pretty neat once created. The guy that said the brass looks all beat up is totally wrong. I am very pleasantly surprised with this kit. I do wish there were some instructions included. The washers definitely have a right and wrong side, and I eventually figured it out. I don't know really how to describe it, sorry...

My car cover didn't have a way to secure to the car, so EVERY time wind blew it ripped it off. I was able to install these grommets. Tarp is too abrasive. Car cover with these grommets installed will not scratch finish and won't come off with wind.

takes a few times to practice with to get right. their is a wrong and right way to do it when installing. for the price it's a great piece of work. the punching tool was a little dull to use on wood, but when paired with an anvil it worked good.

Firstly, it provides a hole-punch which is basically a metal tube that you hammer into the tarp. It does not work because the tubing is not sharp and has 2mm walls - even on a lightweight tarp it only makes an indentation but wont penetrate it - so you will have to use a drill, and then it can easily wrap around the drill.

Secondly, when you hammer the grommits together they dont make a pretty ring - you get a bashed up ring. But hey, it works.

I put a grommit on, threaded rope, and the on one of the8 I created it pulled a 1" hole in the tarp where it failed to keep the tarp from fraying on the hole.

I would recommend, that once youve made a hole, before you add the grommit you should use a lighter to singe/fuse the edges of the hole to stop it fraying

The punch edge is not sharp, so it just dents the tarp. I tried it with several backing blocks and it's always the same. It needs to be sharpened to work properly.

I tried installing several grommets, all of them came out looking pretty bad despite trying different techniques. It is as if the tool is not quite designed exactly for this shape of grommet, or maybe it needs to be made of a different material, or have a smoother finish. It does make a usable grommet, but the forming is sloppy, so it doesn't look "factory".

This product does make grommets however they are not very attractive. (Picture banged up brass circles).

I usually find the merchandise at Harbor Freight of good enough quality to use during manufacturing; however, not this item.

The cutting tool was not sharp and only crushed the fibers, not cut them. A few minutes with a stone on a drimmel fixed this.

The set tools are not shaped properly and crush the grommets. Not something I would give to a customer. I had to make a run to the local Fabric/Craft store to get a set of grommets and a set tool that properly fit.
