I use this to refill 1 lb propane cylinders for appliances like lanterns, portable heaters and camp stoves. It works great. This has saved me a ton of money over the years. Make sure to check the o ring a couple times a year. It will eventually dry rot. I've replaced my o ring 3 times in 7 years. Never use this refill adapter if the outdoor temperature is over 80 degrees F. You could overfill your cylinder. An overfilled cylinder will cause the appliance hooked to it to spit liquid propane and could cause a fire or injury. If it's cold outside you can put the 20 lb tank in a heated garage or outbuilding overnight to warm up before refilling your small cylinders. Never put any propane tank in your house for safety reasons.

gotta get it cold
the bottle has to be cold if you put it in the freezer and you have to turn the #20lb upside down when you fill it and open the valve slowly

Comments about MacCoupler Propane Bottle Refill Kit:
This is the best camping accesory you can own. have not bought a new 1lb can in 3 years. I think i figured it is less than a buck to fill up a 1lb'r. Wanted to get into the hoses and fitting to mate the lantern and stove, but waste of money and less flexible. get on if dont have one, follow directions and really the worst that can happen is you loose some gas from the big tank, if its not going well just shut the valve on the big tank east peasy.

Works great to refill 1 lb bottles that are used on camp stoves, lanterns golf cart heaters and anything that uses or takes the 1 lb bottles. Be sure to freeze 1 lb bottle before trying to fill from 20 lb bottle.

It Works Great

Works as advertised. I figure it's costing me .54 cents to refill a propane bottle verses $2 to $3 to buy a new one. Easy to use and well worth the money.
Wonder gadget.

I needed to start refilling my 1 pound green tanks, but was scared of trying...cost concerns made me do it, as i use a Mr.Heater propane heater and it eats up those small cylinders in no time. Bought this, followed package directions to a tee, and it is really simple and not scary at all. Just make sure the big tank is warm, and the small tanks are cold to get a good fill. Otherwise you only get a 50% fill.
A MUST have!!

About Me Homeowner
Just tried it for the first time on a day when it was about 78 degrees using a 20# propane tank that was mostly full and working in the shade.I had a cylinder that had a couple ounces still in it so I followed the instructions to transfer that into the 20#... left the valve open for several minutes. Cylinder then weighted 18.2 oz. I just assume it was empty. I put it in the freezer for about 20 minutes and then followed the instructions to refill it including leaving the valve open for one minute. When I detached it and weighed it, the cylinder then weighted 31.6 oz so it loaded 13.4 oz of propane. The cylinder is marked as being a 14.1 oz propane cylinder when new so I got an almost-full charge on my first try.I didn't want to over-tighten the adapter into the 20# valve so found I needed to hold it with a wrench when screwing on the empty cylinder because tightening the cylinder turns in the direction that also wants to loosen the adapter from the 20# valve since the cylinder side is right-hand threads and tank side is left-hand threads.
