I just bought this jack yesterday, along with two pairs of jack stands, and then I spent quite a bit of time experimenting with both to make sure that I liked them.

At the time I bought this jack, it was already on sale at the store for a very nice price. However, I had a discount from the August 2012 issue of Motor Trend that made it even cheaper. What a sweet deal!

I've been researching floor jacks for a long time, and have read many complaints about reliability (not just from Harbor Freight jacks, but also from other brands purchased at other stores). The price I paid on this jack was so low that I decided to pay for the extended warranty. I normally avoid extended warranties, but my previous jack (not purchased at Harbor Freight) failed just a few months after the warranty expired, so I paid to extend this new jack's warranty from 90 days to 2 years. If I have no problems, that's fine; the extended warranty was cheap. If I do have problems, I'll probably experience them in less than 2 years (I did on the previous jack).

Assembly of this jack was easy. I followed the bleeding procedure, and did see air bubbles being released from the oil fill screw. So I'm glad I performed that simple procedure.

The primary car I'll be servicing is a 2012 Subaru Impreza. This car is intended to be raised using jack points that are in the center of the car, not along the edges. So I required a low-profile jack with a low hinge point for the handle. This jack's design worked perfectly on my Impreza.

Even though this jack comes with a rubber pad in the saddle, it's a thin pad that I didn't think would provide much protection. I pried that pad out of the saddle and replaced it with a hockey puck. This works perfectly, providing plenty of cushioning while also adding a little extra lift height.

Because this is "only" a 1.5 ton jack, it comes with a relatively short handle. I think this is partly a safety feature; if you need a longer handle/more leverage to raise your car, then you should be using a bigger jack with a higher load rating. As such, raising a car with this jack requires more muscle strength than with other jacks. You really have to push hard to lift the car with this jack. I also attribute this to the jack's rapid-lift design. This jack requires fewer pumps to fully raise the saddle, and as with any gear-operated machine (think of the gears on your bike), with greater speed comes the requirement for extra effort on your part.

I think it's great that the handle is padded as a way of protecting the car. While the padding protected the car when the saddle was low, as the saddle/car were lifted higher into the air, the jack pulls itself deeper beneath the car. Eventually, the padded part of the handle was totally under the car, and the unpadded part of the handle could bang against the bottom of the bumper if I'm not being careful. Not a big problem, just something to be aware of. If you raise your car from the edges, this won't be an issue for you.

After raising the car with the jack, I wanted to test how well it could keep the car raised without leaking and lowering the car (of course, I would never crawl under the car without using jack stands; this was just a reliability/performance test to help me determine if the jack was defective). So after I raised the car, I went about doing other tasks/chores, coming back periodically to see how everything looked. The jack performed perfectly, without dropping the car's height at all after 30 minutes. Awesome!

The handle gives nice control, making it easy to lower the car gently.

Without regard to price, this seems like a really nice jack. But when you factor in the low purchase price (if you catch a sale or have a discount), this becomes an awesome deal.

I hope the jack proves to be reliable over the long term. If so, I will be delighted with this jack!

The Harbor Freight website indicates the max height for this model (#68053) is 18-1/2", which is not correct. Per the manual that came with the floor jack, the max height is 14-3/4", which is accurate. I tried to lift my Mazda CX-7 CUV, and it wouldn't lift the wheels off the ground. I ended up stacking 2x4's, which I hate doing for safety reasons, to get the proper lift needed. The manufacturer does make a similar aluminum, 1.5 ton floor jack, model (#68054), which has a max height of 17-3/4". Unfortunately, Harbor Freight does not carry this model. All in all, the jack worked fine, just be aware of the max height.

Great for the price. Works great on small cars and ATV's. It is light and works good. I think it will hold up just as long as you don't go over the 1.5 ton rating. (that means no Ford F-250 Diesels people)

I'm in bad health and a buddy let me use his Tool Truck one that is supposed to be a Snap. Looks just like the HF jack but is red. I have lost a lot of weight (185 to 125)and muscle mass and it was hard to jack it all the way up. I saw the HF one on sale and purchased two. It lifts one edge of a Crown Vic with no problem. Tried both of them out by lacking each corner of the Crown Vics up and leaving it for 30 mins, no leak down. It is light and easy to remove from the trunk. Each Crown vic has one in it. Tried it on my wife's Subaru Outback where the jack points are in the center on both sides, no problem. If you need to lift the complete front of a full size car or truck (or to use at home to raise it up farther to work on it) HF sells a light weight one for that purpose at a higher price. Also purchased a 120 volt 1/2 in drive impact wrench and a 1000-2000 watt inverter wired in the trunk and a large long pry bar ( all HF) and now I can change a tire myself along the road side without waiting for assistance.

Bought this jack yesterday. Packaged well. Assembly only requires adding the handle and bleeding the air. The jack is designed to lift 3,000 pounds, not 4,000, not 5,000, not 6,000. I jacked up the corner of a Lexus ES perfectly. I tried it under the differential of a Ford F150 Super Crew (5,700?)and it was too much. Use it for what it purposed for and it works great! Saw some poor reviews, but I disagree. Use it for what it's designed for. To jack the rear of my truck I use my my 3 ton steel jack . .. that is what IT was designed for.

I have an older version of this jack. It is so easy to use, that even with my medical problems, I can still work on my cars. It fits under my Chevy Citation, and Chrysler New Yorker, but it has the power to lift our Mercury Villager easily! It raises the vehicle up high. When my cheap jack was stolen from under my van, I bought one of these, and I have never regretted it, even with the new lower price!

I bought this jack on the recommendation of a friend who has owned one for some years, I was wary of using a Harbor Freight product in a life-safety application (that's my head under there!) but the quality of this jack inspires confidence. I have never once seen it slip or hiccup even the slightest, the controls are absolutely positive and the frame is rock solid. I use if for maintenance on my car (the height is insufficient for most tasks on my truck) but I have also used it for a surprising variety of household tasks, including raising up a porch that had settled in after some flooding and getting a fuel oil tank off the ground so new legs could be installed. The light weight makes this jack well-suited to such chores. This is a winner of a product and has changed the way I think of Harbor Freight house brands. Highly recommended.
