In 2018, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA US) implemented the Secure Gateway Module (SGW). The goal of this on board security feature was to secure the numerous on board control modules behind a "firewall" to prevent against security breaches and external issues. Only FCA US approved Diagnostic Scan Tools that have been certified by FCA and adhere to their compliance protocols are authorized to access the Secure Gateway Module.
Harbor Freight Tools has worked with FCA US to allow independent technicians the ability to use their Diagnostic Scan Tool to perform diagnostic procedures on FCA vehicles such as:
- Clearing DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)
- Performing all bi-directional functions:
Follow These Steps to Authenticate Your Scan Tool for Secure Gateway Module (SGW) Access
Step 1: Register Account & Activate Scan Tool
- Shop Owner Instructions
Register your Shop account at AutoAuth.com. There is a $50 Annual fee for each shop account. Six Users are allowed access on the shop account and you are automatically covered.There will be a $2/annual fee for adding additional users.
- Technician Instructions
The shop owner will be now be able to add the Scan Tool to the shop profile. This allows the scan tool access to FCA secure vehicles.
- Log back into AUTOAUTH
- Select Manage Tools
- Select Harbor Freight Tools as the manufacturer
- Add the serial number
- Select Add

Step 2: Ensure That You Have the Latest Diagnostic Software
You need the Chrysler software to be at version V33.18 or newer; Zurich software to be at version V5.01.00 or newer; If your software is over a year old, purchase a 1 year subscription update here.
Step 3: All Set!
The next time you hook up to a SGW vehicle enter your valid login credentials from AutoAuth. Be sure to have a stable network connection to avoid any connectivity issues and delays. Once you have entered your login, you will gain access to the SGW.
