Comments about Central Machinery 1'' x 30'' Belt Sander:

Build Quality Corrections . . .

~ Zirconia Sanding belts cut much faster.

~ Bolt that acts as pivot point for belt tightener need to be loosened to function.

~ Grease the pivot point on the belt tightener.

~ I added a shim to the belt tightener spring to increase the belt tension.

~ On - Off, switch can be replaced with Japanese made switch
NKK Rocker Switch, Maintained, DPST, 16A . . . Mfr. Model # JWL21RC1A …

~ This switch is not an exact replacement though it still snaps in, you may want to use a little RTV sealer to secure the switch dust cover.

~ Sanding belt pulleys can were out of round which caused excessive vibration in sanding belt.

~ The big pulley on the motor was the worst yet the easiest to correct.

~ Remove the sanding belt, turn the motor on, use a Lathe Iron or sharp Wood Chisel to cut the pulley; be careful to maintain the general shape of the pulley.

~ The top pulley can be corrected can be corrected in much the same way; the safest way is to turn it by hand.

~ If you are a real perfectionist you can also correct the idler pulley the same way, though this will have little effect on the machine's performance. If you remove the snap ring and flip the pulley it is much easier to correct the other half of the pulley.

~ These idler pulleys can obviously be driven by the sanding belt, but there are big safety issues !!!

~ The belt sander's 3 table mounting surfaces are poorly machined, though easily corrected with a flat file, don't forget the area on the main sander frame.

~ Add a flat washer and a spring lock washer to the table mount / locking bolt for smother operation.

I am using this belt sander to sharpen knives and other small projects.

Thanks to all who have been kind enough to share their in the many product reviews.

Comments about Central Machinery 1'' x 30'' Belt Sander:

I am pleased with the sander. On [@] I found that they run about 80 bux. I'm sure they are better grade but I will only use mine about 2 times a month. I sharpen knife blades and I'm pleased. I have used it alot the last 2 days sharpening my knife and seems like everyone else's since I have told them how good it works. For the price, get it.

    • Not for knife sharpening
    • Wood working

Comments about Central Machinery 1'' x 30'' Belt Sander:

Bought this to sharpen up knives. Purchased some quality 3m trizact belts and this machine broke a belt in less than half an hour of work time. Idler pulleys wobble and the belt tracking is awful. All pulleys are domed, only the tracking pulley needs to be semi-round.

This is best suited for light duty wood working. The motor is week, and the belt came installed so tight that the motor couldn't spin the belt. Had to adjust everything to make it somewhat usable.

This is not a precision machine at all.
Might use the motor from this and construct a precise belt grinder set up.

Comments about Central Machinery 1'' x 30'' Belt Sander:

I use this a lot building radio controlled model aircraft. It eats balsa wood like crazy. You have to have a soft touch or you will over sand balsa. It works great on light ply and bass wood also. The only draw back it the table does not tighten up and moves creating an angle off of 90 degrees so you have to check it a lot to be sure it is at 90 degrees. I have not had to use it for angle sanding as of yet but I can see it may be a problem it it does not hold.

I use this with small projects, had to replace upper idler bearing within 3 hours of use, went to a bearing supply house and bought 3 for less than a retailer wanted for 1.6 belts and 30 hours later it is starting to get a little noisy, because I do not use a vacuum while using it like it was designed,I am quite pleased.Takes less than 5 minutes to change a bearing.

Comments about Central Machinery 1'' x 30'' Belt Sander:

I really like this sander and it kills me to have to give it a low rating. The reason it gets 3 stars is because of low quality. During assembly the handle that locks the table broke right in my hand. Then after about 10 minutes of use the drive wheel came loose and started making a ton of noise. When i tried to tighten the set screw it ripped the threads out because its plastic. That being said...... I still love the thing. It works really well and has enough power for my needs. I just wish it were a little better quality.

I had a similar version but the actual wheel broke so I decided to buy a harbor freight sander and I had some issues as it arrived in very bad condition. In one email they resolved everything and I ended with another brand new sander and they did not even ask for me to return the broken one. Great if your a knife maker or jewelry smith.
