not a long term solution Review by Jim M.

I use this unit to back up my solar powered homestead, unfortunately I have had to replace it twice..... bearings once and winding melt down the second time. The price is tempting but I am getting tired of repeating the purchase and mounting every couple years.

Excellent Value Review by James Davis

I purchased 3 of these to power my entire home. Our local utility bills went from $140 a month, to a whopping $450 due to huge rate increases. Sure the plastic bezel is cheap, the gauges are lousy, but if you compare it to a $1000 10KW unit from Northern Tools, its really no big deal to upgrade it. I am using a 2HP pool mag drive pump to push 3 fresh water pumps in series. Each pump has a genset on it with a series of weighted pulleys to obtain the 3000+RPM needed. The 2HP pool pump uses 12 amps. The excess power then powers my entire home. The utility company sent an inspector to make sure I wasn't stealing power from a neighbor, or creating a fire hazard. Needless to say, the inspector loved the setup, plus I showed him how to synchronize the 3 gensets without any danger of blowing them apart. He was very pleased with my results.

Nice unit Review by Allan MacInnes

I made a steel bracket to mount this to my lawn tractor. This is the way to go for backup power! Dont have to worry about the gas sitting for long periods. Wife cant set it up though, but that has nothing to do with the quality. I agree with the other reviewer, to bad they could not have made the plastic cooling vents and control panel a little more durable. Needed to build in a guard to make sure it does not break when handling. Also the wiring behind the cover was not all attached when I recieved the item. Good deal though, and makes tons of electricity with a 22hp lawnmower attached!!!!!

Works great with some work. Review by Jim

The from bezel is terrible. It breaks very easy. The electrical connectors behind the front cover must be checked and tightened. The voltage gauges are only good fro showing approximate voltage, they are not accurate at all. I took apart the bearings and cleaned out the chapstik looking grease with some quality bearing grease.
I use the HF 13hp engine and overdrive it so that the engine runs at 3000rpm and the generator is at specification of 3600rpm. Built a heavy steel from so that the generator head is not subjected to vibration. The Harbor Freight 13hp is very smooth anyway. It is a great DIY generator head if you can disassemble yourself and tweak it some.
I rated it a 3 because of the cheap plastic front cover. Why could they not make that better???
