Drill bits are like clamps, you never have too many. These are the most affordable way to purchase a set of number and letter drills which are handy to have. Except for industrial supply houses, they are usually hard to find. The number and letter bits fill out your set with sizes in-between the standard fractional drills.





These have stayed pretty sharp, I don't recommend trying to sharpen them because you'll wear off the TiN coating, leaving a softer cutting edge. I've been using this set for 8 years with only one bit broken. And that was drilling out a broken hardened steel 3/8" bolt on a car steering knuckle- I can't fault the bit, I was really honking on it in a large, geared electric drill.





The size and fractional conversion chart comes in surprisingly handy, I use it frequently. The case is a little cheesy, but it works to keep the set in order if you don't remove too many adjacent sizes at one time. Especially with the smaller bits, you'll find several adjacent holes they will fit in, so you might need a magnifier to read the drill size on the shank, or measure it with a caliper so you can return it to the proper hole in the storage case.





This set frequently goes on sale, so it's worth waiting for a good price, or at least use a 20% off coupon. I would buy them again once I've got too many broken or dull bits, like someone else said, that's cheaper than buying individual HSS bits elsewhere.

I'm a mechanic and machinist, and i use these bits everyday. yes there is higher quality stuff out there but you cant touch it for the price. yes i have dulled a few bits trying to drill hardened steel but nothing i cant fix with a bench grinder. ive had this set for 4 years with daily use. the only problems with the bit were operater error (i.e. me) just be patient, slow drilling speed and cutting oil and when they get dull after you misuse them they can always be sharpened. Great set of bits

My set is about 9 years old. They have been very good. I think 1 snapped, but that is expected for small bits. You always need a few small dupes.





They have remained sharp, the tin coating is just ok, but for the price I paid, I am not complaining.

While these aren't the greatest drills you can get. The price for what you get cannot be beat. The main thing to remember, to anyone, no matter what drill bit you use, is lubricating the bit while drilling will make them last 100 times longer. Cutting oil is best, but any oil is better than nothing. Also, running them too fast for the material you are drilling will burn them up/dull them before they should, even if you are lubricating while you drill. As far as the smallest bit go, they are very small in diameter, and hardened to make their edge last, which makes them very brittle. This means that they cannot handle much, if any, lateral movement (bending). I have broken several of the smaller bit in this set, but because I put too much lateral force on the bits. I will but another set because buying individual drills to replace what I've broken is more expensive than the set.

This is a set for SOFT wood at best. The larger bits work fine for soft wood, but all of the smaller bits snap in half. No joke, the 3 smallest bits broke in half when I set the drill down on a towel next to me on the floor. Yes they were in the chuck, but it was on a towel, and the drill was a cordless kitchen drawer type electirc that weighs less than 1lb ... no way they should have broke.

These are good quality drill bits for people that want to take care of them. Anyone that doesn't want to take care of tools should just go to the dime store.

The small bits snap like pretzels and the large ones are too dull to cut after one use.
