Comments about Pittsburgh Forge 12 Piece Screw Extractor Set:

I have not used these for screw extraction. However, I used the #6 to extract a stuck Moen shower valve, and it worked great -- paid for itself, since I didn't need to call a plumber. I used a large wrench to turn it -- having a a center mount handle, like the one included in the Tap & Die Set, would be helpful.

If you need to use it for hard metals, consider buying a better quality set.

Decent but needs better grade hardened steel

Comments about Pittsburgh Forge 12 Piece Screw Extractor Set:

I'm now on my 2nd set (til I get a set of Irwin's) after breaking the majority of the first set (even the large extractor). The steel is too soft for extraction grade. I only recommend this set for light applications where if the extractor breaks you're not screwed. Harbor really needs to go back and improve this set before a bunch of first time users of this product end up in a pickle and mad.

Just Ok

Comments about Pittsburgh Forge 12 Piece Screw Extractor Set:

I broke a few of these drill bits trying to extract a valve cover bolt from an cylinder head. They seem to work well with soft metals but anything that is remotely hard and they break or don't even make a dent.

I give these 3 stars because there are a lot of other applications where these have worked better than the original task I bought them for.
