Not bad at all for the price

  • Impellers don't last

Comments about Pacific Hydrostar 12 Volt Marine Utility Pump:

These little pumps are actually not bad. Great for water transfer, pumping out a bilge, etc. Be aware that they are noisy (like any pump of this design is) and that the rubber impellers don't last all that long. You can get replacement impellers by calling HF and asking for parts -- and the impellers are cheap too. I keep a couple around (I live on a big boat).

Comments about Pacific Hydrostar 12 Volt Marine Utility Pump:

Nice little pump as long as you keep its intended use in mind. First, it's a vane-type pump so IT'S NOT SELF-PRIMING. If you try to use it that way, you'll ruin the pump vanes and housing in mere seconds. It's a little noisy, but if you're looking for quiet, you're going to pay a whole lot more. I'm using it for condensate removal so it runs only for 10 seconds every 15 minutes. It's been working great for two years. It hasn't leaked despite being under a constant 4psi static pressure. I didn't find the large alligator clips very useful. Chances are that most people won't. A more flexible power connection arrangement would be an improvement, or simply drop the clips altogether and lower the price a bit.

      Decent for the money

Comments about Pacific Hydrostar 12 Volt Marine Utility Pump:

These pumps aren't made for steady continuous use, but for short duration they aren't too bad. I use it for pumping liquid de-icer out of my plow truck and it does the job just fine, even in sub zero temps. I would say you shouldn't run them steady for more than 25-30 minutes or you will risk burning the motor. In reality any little electric pump is like that, no matter the brand. I bought a second one just for the motor. Took th pump head off and am using the motor to power an atv salt spreader. I would buy another one for either use. Always remember you get what you pay for, and I don't expect it to last forever, but it is doing its job just fine. Not a fast high volume pump.
