At this price, you can't go wrong. My only beef is with the switch. I have sausage-sized fingers and i wish the switch was bigger. High is up, low is toggle down. The off is a weird inbetween that is hard to hit sometimes. I've had times when i'm bouncing back and forth from high to low for 1/2 a minute. Frustrating when you're doing a temp-sensative job. Otherwise, it's a good tool. I got the nasty HF Orange color. I'd get a standard black one if I'd do it again.

Comments about Drill Master 1500 Watt Dual Temperature Heat Gun (572°/1112°):

Used to reheat seams on BUR [Built Up Roof] flat roof I'm in the process of refurbishing. High setting was more than adequate to quickly reheat and melt tar along the seams that had cracked and were leaking after 25 years. Had no problems whatsoever continuously using for several hours at a time. Highly recommend.

Mine did not burn up but it smoked and smelled as it would after about 30 seconds of use. I am afraid to use again. Had to store outside due to burning smell. I live 4 hours away from a HF store and it is not worth to return by mail. This is the first problem I have had with any HF item and I have been a customer for years.

Comments about Drill Master 1500 Watt Dual Temperature Heat Gun (572°/1112°):

I used it on cable connection heat shrink tubing. Within about 10 minutes of starting, the motor made grinding sounds and a shower of hot sparks came out of the front of the gun. The heat element was still on but the motor stopped. I turn the unit off let it cool and attempted to restart it but the motor failed to come on, only the heat element would come on.

While I understand tools do not last forever, but a single day of use and a dangerous condition like this is unacceptable to me as a consumer. I am very disappointed with your safety and quality review on this product.

I have it for over a year. I use it accasionaly around working on cars and other projects. Only thing I wish to see it is to come in some plastic case for storage out of the way on the shelf even if it would add a couple bcks to the price. On the other hand it's so cheap would it break while I kick it around I would just go and buy another. But it was sturdy enough and survived a year so far.

Desoite bad reviews, the heat gun seemed solid so I bought it and the 2 year extended warranty. The vrey first time I tried it out, after turning it off, a solid curl of smoke came out for quite a while. I tried one more time, thinking maybe it was just initial burn off, but it still kept smoking.

I bought three when they were on sale, to have one handy in the various places I was working.

All three burnt out with less than three minutes of intermittent use.

Bought, came home to use it and as soon as I plugged it in, it started smoking. I had to look up online if this was normal. I am going to buy a professional one and return this one.

Burned up only after about 30 or 40 minutes of use. If you don't mind the trip back to harbor freight buy the extended warranty

As with others =, the switch went south after several uses. Made OVER SEAS say anything. The folks with good ratings may be the exception.

I use it here and there for a year so far. Can't complain, makes a decent heat, feels sturdy. the only thing that confuses me still is the rocker switch. Middle is off, up is high, down is low power. Despite it seems logical it would be more intuitive on your fingers if down would be off, mid is low, up is high.
