Bad design Review by Terry

Have had this for a couple of years and used it for the first time yesterday to plave a benchtop. The belt disintegrated after planing the top completely once. The top is 4 1/2 ft by 2 ft. Called harbor Freight today and ordered a replacement belt. Hope it fits. If this belt melts as well then this P.O.S. is going to go in the garbage and will be replaced with a Porter Cable one. I have had great luck with most of their machines but they really need to redesign this belt system on this. Not that they will at this price point.

Replacement belt unavailable for 3-1/4" electric planer Review by Mozock

Tool worked fine until belt broke. Unable to find replacement. I purchased a 24" x 1.75 self sealing inner tube, cut to size and it works find. Although planer grooved it did not come off. Cheap fix and you will have plenty belts should this one break!

decent unit Review by Chris

Just bought the planer 2 days ago.Used it on 2 doors so far.On sale with a coupon for about $24.Don't expect too much out of it ,but so far works great.seems to have pretty good power and quiet to.Hope I don't have problem with the belt like the other guys. With some research ,you'd be surprised what you can find on your own as far as replacement parts go.My 5 year old Frigidaire window a/c had an extremely loud blower wheel last year(still blew out ice cold ac,and unit was in good condition)Ididn't want to get rid of it but noise was driving me crazy.I took it apart to find the bearing at the end of the blower assembly was rusted.I tried to clean it out and force some grease into it.Before putting it back together I wrote down whatever numbers or letters where on the bearing. They didn't seem to be a standard bearing #(ie...national),but whatever.Put it back together and tried it out, didn't make a bit of difference.Went online to look up replacement parts for the unit.I could only get a few parts that were still available(go figure for a 5 year old unit)and the bearing wasn't even a shown part.I tried a dozen other sites for appliance parts.Everybodies picture was the same.I decided to google the numbers and letters i had found on the bearing and a few links actually came up.2 were completely in japanese and 1 was in English. It was actually a place i could order these Chinese bearings(they had a whole list of different bearings)I figured I'll give it a shot.I ordered 2 bearings at about .53 each and of course about 5 bucks shipping.Took the unit apart again(real fun),replaced both front and rear bearings, put it all back together again, stuck it in the window, crossed my fingers, fired it up and listened, quiet as good be.It was some time involved but to me it was worth the price of another $350 12,000 btu ac unit.

Worked great 'til belt broke & no replacement avail. Review by William Johnston

Same problem as "Jim." Had the planer for about 2 years, used it seldom, but it worked great. Belt actually disintigrated into bits & pieces! Have sku # printed on planer (32222), don't have original receipt, nor know item # of my planer. Can't find manual that came with it either! Replacement belt sent when I ordered it last week, would not fit (too small), part sent was for item # 91062, seller has no records for #32222 planer.

3 1/4 inch Electric Planer Review by Jim

I purchased this about 2 years ago when it was on sale for about 30 dollars. It worked fine for a long time with light duty type work. Recently the belt broke. It came with a replacement belt. I took the cover off and replaced the belt and she seemed to work fine. But it only worked fine for a short while as the belt got chewed up badly. I was careful to not make deep cut but shallow cuts. Still the belt broke. I am trying to find a new belt. The web site doesn't have the belt in its records and I didn't buy a service warranty.
These Harbor Freight tools are incredable cheap. I don't understand how they can do it including shipping the things from China. Some tools are better than others from the Freight. I don't understand why the belt had a melt down with all the precautions I took. I don't recommend purchasing this tool but to purchase one a bit more expensive but built more to last.
