For the price, I decided to get this as a cheap socket set for my basement workshop. I was tired of running up to the garage every time I needed a socket for a project downstairs, like perhaps changing a chainsaw chain, a circular saw blade, or removing a bolt. The quality is what you might expect for the price, but it's not that bad. It should do the job in most situations. With a Lifetime Warranty, you're covered if you happen to break anything. Harbor Freight has always been good to me in regards to replacing broken tools. I might get a couple more to keep in the trunk of the car and scatter around in other places like the general kitchen "utility tool box" and maybe the shed.My only complaint is the sockets only go up to 15mm - a 16 and 17 would be helpful. But overall, can't complain for the price. It's a good addition, with an "ok" plastic case to keep things organized. For the price, good enough. Can't complain. Perhaps my next purchase might be one that has more sockets and tools, but this is a nice little starter set to give as a gift, or to give to your wife/mom/girlfriend so she has a little basic socket set to tackle small home fixes or assembly tasks.

I used this product a few times on two trailers. Broke after removing several older bolts. The spring that holds the internal mechanism in, fell out. It would work again, if I could just get the peice back in. I will buy a new ratchet to go with it. Even with breaking, its worth the price for the sockets.

Comments about Pittsburgh 40 Piece 3/8" and 1/4" Drive Socket Set:
This is a great 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th...) socket set to have around. You can NOT beat the bang for your buck since the price is so low. I keep this set in the trunk of my car in case I need a socket or two on the road, or just don't feel like going inside to get my good tools.NO, this is not your primary socket set. It is not complete, the ratchet is cheap, and I'm sure you could break these sockets pretty easily on rusted or large bolts. But its perfectly functional for what it is! Don't expect to do major automotive repairs, or for this to last 20 years. But DO expect a great deal on a functional backup set with a case that keeps things organized in the trunk of your car!

About Me Casual Do-It-Yourselfer
This is a great socket set! It's fairly shiny finish and organizer case will make a lasting impression. The soft metal sockets work great with plastic fasteners and will be sure not to dull, mar or deform more expensive fasteners that are found on quality things that you'll likely send to a professional to be repaired. This quality set will make you feel assured that you can repare anything knowing that you have a "socket set" somewhere. The negative reviews are too harsh and obviously done by those who don't know the first thing about tools like these. This set will surely last several generations, just don't apply more than two or three fingers of torque, or use it to repare something that might be worth repairing and it will serve you well. (After all, those things actually worth repairing, should be sent to a professional repair shop).
Why Not?

Purchased this set to keep as a spare in my Jeep. Small compact case doesn't take up much room at all in my Tool Box. Used it once it didn't fail and hey, it was [$]. If it works twice it was well worth the price.
Steel ratchet instead of chrome/plastic
By Love4U_Harbor Freight

I bought two of these months ago and threw away the chrome ratchet as it was cheap plastic/chrome/bad spring. This week bought another to find the ratchet is changed to high quality steel, no plastic no chrome. Buy the product at cash register, open outside, if you have improved steel ratchet it does not match the chrome sockets.
Great Product

Great Product, it works very well, but; some of the sockets hook a little loose on the ratchet, so they some times fall off. But good product for someone who dosn't use it every day.

CHEAP insurance

This tool saved me much more than it cost. An alternator bolt came loose in my car and as soon as I heard the fan hit I stopped and used this set to tighten it. Miles from civilization and with no cell phone signal this saved the day. It's so inexpensive that if you lose it or pieces you do not care. It can save your car or even your life when you are isolated.

Nice to have on hand

Look at the price of this ratchet set. If you plan on repairing the Mars Rover 2 times over then think twice. If you plan to do casual around the house/garage work then by all means use this. You cannot beat the price. Just throw it in a vehicle as backup or emergency. The build quality isn't high end, but they work like they should and Harbor Freight has a lifetime warranty on their tools so you can't go wrong.
