Change oil easily Review by Jeff H

I extracted the oil in my 2004 BMW 3 Series in 5 minutes or less. My shop compressor has a smaller tank than the oil extractor and I had to improvise by running it to its highest pressure while pinching the hose then releasing the pinch to partially fill the extractor tank and repeating this procedure 4 times. I also had to improvise with the barbed connector but my improvisation was just to cut the end off of my compressor hose since I wanted to replace it with a real rubber hose anyway. I guess I'll be going back to HF shortly :)

professional tech Review by eric

I am a master mercedes tech. I bought this tool 4 years ago and in my expert opinion it is a must for every tech that works on a vehicle that can be evacuated via the dip stick tube. It works perfect for mercedes.

Amazing tool Review by Jeff

I have had my HF extractor for well over a year now and I love this thing. My Toyota truck has the oil filter on top so now I don't even need to bend over to change the oil and filter. My dipstick tube is curved and the small nylon extractor tube was too short to reach to the bottom of my oil pan. This required me to buy a longer section of tubing at the hardware store and to swap it for the one that came with the unit. I was not able to find one as rigid as the original, but it still works fine--just take care when you swap the tubing connected to the adapter that you do not lose the o-rings or damage the compression fitting. I've used it on other cars too and have yet to find one where it does not work--though sometimes you do need to fiddle with the tube, pushing it in and puklling it out until all the oil is out and all you are doing is sucking air. Also, make sure the oil is warm (not hot) or it will not extract it well.

I also use the tool to suck brake fluid and muck out of resevoirs and I use the tapered adabter it comes with (along with a short piece of clear tubing) to bleed brakes. Attach the tool--open the caliper bleeder nipple--stand by the resevoir and keep pouring in fresh fluid until you are satisfied all the old stuff is out.

Great product for the money Review by Jim

A great product. If you change your own oil this will save you a ton of time. I have a diesel and the filter is accessible from on top. Took about five minutes to suction the old oil and replace the filter. Took longer to put in fresh oil!

Used it on the lawn tractor and mower as well. Sweet! No more tipping the mower or trying to balance it over a drain pan.

Only odd thing is the air inlet came with a barbed fitting that was threaded into a manifold. I removed the barbed fitting and put on a standard quick coupler fitting. Other than that worked great. Only takes about a minute for the air to create enough of a vacuum to easily pull the 8 quarts out of the diesel. No mess and fast. Got to love it.

Great product for the money Review by Jim N.

I picked this up to change oil in a vehicle that has a remote filter accessible from the top. There is no provision to get to the bottom of the motor easily. As a result I picked this up. The muffler for the compressed air is fairly quiet and I was able to pull to a full vacuum in less than a minute. The probes consist of metal and nylon types. I had to use the nylon type due to a bend in the dip stick tube.

The oil was still fairly hot when it was extracted and the unit worked very well. I will let the oil cool down a bit more the next time I do it as the oil was close to the maximum temperature allowed. The tube and valve got HOT and required a rag to hold it. Good thing is the oil was extracted in very little time. The motor holds nearly eight quarts and this was removed in about two minutes or less.

I then used the extractor to remove oil from the lawn tractor and mower. Man this makes changing the oil in the mower and tractor a breeze. In fact the mower took about ten seconds to remove! This extractor is already starting to pay for itself.

The main extraction hose is not the highest quality but it seems to do the job. As with many HF items you still get a lot for the money. The drain is large on the device and I like it has a small chain around it so it doesn't get lost!
