For those of you trying to "test" your car battery with this meter, it is limited to 10A MAX. Short circuiting any battery that is capable of putting out over 10A (any car or motorcycle battery) will break your meter and could burn you/set the thing on fire. If the fuse is blown on the 200mA circuit you have done the same thing, buy a new fuse and don't stick the leads where you have no idea of the current or can't calculate it.

On to the meter, got it for free with coupon, and it works good enough. Can't complain! It is a tool that just about everyone should own.

Comments about Cen-Tech 7 Function Digital Multimeter:

Bought this as a "throwaway" meter for occasional use, and it probably would have been OK in that use if it actually worked.

The meter leads are so bad that they won't even detect continuity when shorted to each other.

Save your pennies and move up to the next higher model. You'll end up spending the price difference on new meter leads for this one

Comments about Cen-Tech 7 Function Digital Multimeter:

I own about a half dozen of these meters, spread between the house, shop, and my vehicles. I grab for one of these meters as much as I grab for my more expensive meters. I do miss th audible continuity checks though. Fuse is servicable and if you have a voltage reference, the voltage is adjustable. They do read incorrectly when the battery is low but do not give much other indication of the problem. I give them away as door prizes at our hamfest.

My windstar had gone through 3 new batteries within a summer season. I got one of these for a buck. It was able to test my 12v car battery and find the fuse to the problem for the batter drain. To find the drain all you have to do is set the meter to 10A settings. Those who say you can't test batteries with this are wrong. Just make sure your leads are in the propper jacks or you will blow a fuse or ruin your machine. Get one!

Comments about Cen-Tech 7 Function Digital Multimeter:

to use as an indicator of parameters is great but its limitation are obvious it is cheap therefore it is a discard items if it fails. Its uses therefore is for people that do notknow much about instrumentation. example measuring batteries with this meter is faulty it will only tell you the voltage is there not the power available. Must apply a proper load first.

Well the one I got reads all resistances a 1 and does not read voltage. Pretty much dead out of box. I guess I'll return it and hope I get one that works for me meh.

Comments about Cen-Tech 7 Function Digital Multimeter:

I have had it for about 6 months and love it. It goes places and other people use it but if it walks off It's easily replaceable. Others seem to prefer it over the higher end models. Does about anything. Might try the backlight one next, would probably be helpful in darker locations. My son tried it and my husbands Fluke and they were very close to the same readings, not far enough off to justify the price differences. Might try the alligator clip idea sounds like a good way to go.
