BOUGHT TO REPLACE OLDER GRINDER. WORKS GREAT. THE ONLY TWO NEGATIVES ARE THE WEAK TOOL REST AND YOU HAVE TO BUY THE HF WIRE WHEEL BECAUSE THE OTHER BRANDS ARE TOO THIN AT THE CENTER AND CAN NOT BE TIGHTENED UP.YOU HAVE TO MAKE A SPACER IN ORDER TO MAKE IT WORK. HAVE IT MOUNTED TO WORK BENCH I BUILT USING HF WELDER AND TWO BY THREE STEEL TUBING.

Was on the site looking for another tool and accidentally stumbled on this product listing. I bought one 20 years ago, still runs like a top and works great. It has been de-installed, moved and re-installed 3 times, with no ill affects. Was in my garage in Florida for 9 years, subjected to high humidity,2 huricanes and salt air. As was stated in another review, takes 4 or 5 minutes to stop spinning, great bearings. Very solid product.

I've had this grinder about five years. The shaft has zero runout both sides so any vibration problems will be from the wheels. The stock wheels on any grinder from any company aren't great - get good ones from a supplier and learn how to both true and dress the wheels. Mount it using pieces of rubber sheet under the grinder. The tool rests are flimsy - get a few pieces of large angle iron and fashion heavy duty rests that bolt to your bench.
I've gone through four wheels and now use it with a course stinger wire wheel and a fine wire wheel for scale removal, deburring and weld smoothing. It gets at least an hour of very heavy use each day and doesn't complain. It has outlasted a brand name grinder that literally burned up. I would get another one in an instant!

Purrs like a kitten, grinds like a beast. some reviewers said it was off balance or noisy with a bad vibration, couldnt dissagree more. I'm gonna pick up another one to mount some 7" cutting discs on. other grinders of similiar size and power are 250 deniro and up, this grinder is awesome.

I have owned this grinder for 6 years and have never had any trouble with it. I am just about to the point of needing new wheels as these are pretty worn. I just keep redressing the wheels with on of HF's wheel dressers, which also works perfectly, and it keeps purring along.


About a year ago I decided to time how long it takes the wheels to stop after turning the unit off because the wheels seem to keep turning for ever due to excellent bearing system and the thing ran for 4:43, unbelivable.


I also recommend getting the pedestal stand that goes with it. It is cast iron with a water reservoir for cooling grinding bits and such which I do a lot of cause i have a small machine shop at my house with HF metal lathe and milling machine.


HF you are a blessing to me and my hobbies/work.

Get 5/8" ID by 1" wide by 1" OD flangeless sleeve from McMastr-Car thirty washingtons with shipping, add good wheels and sharpen all your tool steel instruments. Rests are junk, make your own. The bearings and shaft are flawless on mine, and it shipped halfway across country in just its own box.
HF has turned 4 jackson investment into baldor quality grinder. Bravo!

Was given to me as a gift. The wheels that came with it are not that good and cause the unit to vibrate enough to move it off the bench if not mounted. I suspect that if I kept these stock wheels on the unit the bearings would very quickly wear out. Based on the information in the forums I went ahead and purchased two steal bushings from another site (google: 5/8" ID, 1" wide, 1" OD flangeless bushing item #8491A562) along with two new wheels. Now it should run very smooth. I would recommend this to a friend if they were going to replace the wheels.

Have had mine now for 5 years now and replaced the left hand wheel with a HF brass wire wheel with no problems.
I use mine for sharpening to cleaning car parts & tools.
It is a little louder then other grinders and the tool rests are really poor design.
I have abused it bad but it works just like it just come out of the box so I hope to get another 5 years use out of it.
For home shop use I highly recommend it!

Good grinder. I'm using it to drive my home made wood lathe. I wood have given it five stars but the wheels are cheap and out of balance. All kinds of vibration with the wheels on but almost none with them off. Great deal for a 3/4 hp grinder/motor but just get better wheels.
