i've had it close to a year now. i use it with power tools. i have a yukon so i have it mounted in the back. i put a shelf in the back driver side wheel well window to mount it. i used 0 or 1 awg house wire that i encased in water proof armored cable (just added protection) the saying goes " safety is no accident". i ran the one long wire from the battery thru the firewall along driverside floor to the inverter. i luv it. its a good idea to get a deep cycle battery. i use 1 battery so with only my hi amp tools do i have to turn the truck on. you can eliminate that with a 2nd battery but really no need.

After reading all of the other reviews I have determined that everyone else is severely underpowering the inverter that they have which means you arent going to get the output you are looking for. A single car battery or even a single deep cycle marine rv battery is not strong enough. This Thing has a minimum of 400 amp draw for 1 hour or 2500 amp draw over 4 hours. That means at a minimum you need 4(FOUR!!!) 100AH deepcycle batteries (group 27) to operate this properly. Best operation would be 6-8 100AH deepcycle batteries with at least either 400 watts of power from a solar array or a 400 amp alternator. This thing will run everything in your house simultaneously if you have enough juice to back it up. Be smart about hook up and get high voltage rated wire. THICK wire. Im using 2000v 3awg specialty wire.

The first one I had was defective but HFT replaced it with no issues. The performance of the new one is flawless, but you'll want a way to recharge the batts because it takes a lot of power to run it, and get decent cables for it or it won't reach its full potential. I use this with 4 HFT solar panel kits to recharge 2 big deep cycle batts. This is the sole power for my pole barn, and it runs my old hungry Campbell-Hausfield air compressor, runs my welder and any other power tools I connect to it. The solar panels keep it charged and I'm never without power. Planning to use it for back-up for the house in case of power failure.

It is the DC Metro/East Coast 4th of July 2012 power outage!!! I am using this now. It will run my window A/C and my 40" LCD TV, not much more. It does work, but I think 4000 watts is the max it will do continuous load. When it blows, I flip it off and then back on, and that fixes everything. I have my car backed up to my house and it is idling (2008 Prius). My car battery is not much bigger than a motorcycle battery, but then again the Prius has a larger battery which I am not sure if that factors in (car also has a std 12 volt in the trunk for the gas engine). I used a 9 gallon tank of gas per day running the Windows A/C and the TV, I can switch on the hour to keep the fridge cool, but I cannot run my full size fridge and A/C and TV at the same time. It was easy to install, but the cable kit is extra, or you can go buy the cables from any auto parts store. My car battery is very small, not sure how much my alternator does, but it worked last night without any issues. I keep the A/C in the car running, and have the unit sitting in the truck area, it never gets hot with the seats down and the A/C always on, not even warm. I wanted to buy a generator, but they were all sold out in our region due to this storm. This has alot of power, but you will need 2 of them to run a standard house with 2 cars. Even at 9 gallon a day, my neighbors are running through 25+ gallons of gas with their generators, so I guess it is efficient with my method. I am happy, I would suggest to others, and I will get one for my wife's car when more come in stock.

I used the inverter on a 2000 mile trip in a school bus, it worked fine.....for 15min at a time, I was pulling more from the batteries than the alternator could recharge. I can say if the alternator could have kept up, I think this would have worked fine. I ran a flat panel lcd tv, a playstation 3 and a rooftop mounted A/C on this, for 15min at a time with about 7-10 min to recharge, on a school bus with a 90+amp alternator. I would recomend it. Just keep the receipt! just in case.
