This is my second build on one of these types of trailers. The first was the 8" wheel model for local use only. I needed one to haul stuff over 1000 miles and didn't trust the small wheels. So, yesterday, I built this one. Here's my observations and suggestions:1. I either lucked out on the hubs (see other reviews) or they finally fixed the hub problem by supplying those guys with jigs. Mine were good, zero bounce or vibration at 70 MPH. (Test purposes only! Max rated is 55 MPH)2. If you build on concrete or asphalt, lay a blanket down first... it will save some paint.3. Have a rubber/rawhide mallet handy for "re-forming" some tweaked parts.4. Build per instructions but do not torque any bolts until you get to the "fold in half" stage. That will make it MUCH more simple for the initial square up. (One guy spent an additional day squaring it up because he didn't do this. But, I thank him for the "heads up")5. Install axle assemblies and torque them down. Torque down the tongue assembly. Snug (don't torque) the crossmembers after aligning the two halves (that are now stacked on top of each other).6. After you get to the part where it says to unfold the trailer, eyeball (or use an 8 foot straight edge) down the rails. Use a light sledge hammer to "tap" on the bolt heads of front and rear sections until your sides are perfectly lined up. Torque all existing bolts.7. Complete construction per instructions.Gotchya's:1. Two bolts on the frame will have to go "opposite" (nuts on the outside of the frame) due to lack of clearance inside the frame.2. The grease caps ARE TIGHT! (as mentioned in another review) Work them off slowly and carefully using appropriate tools.3. Check your hubs. Make sure they're fairly true. Lots of problems in the past with those.4. The ball hitch assembly tweaked on install. (should have installed some spacers to keep it from "pinching") The result was it would not slip over the ball. The ball retaining tongue (inside the ball receiver) was binding. I didn't have any spacers handy, so I disassembled the parts, removed the retaining tongue, whacked it a couple of times with the hammer (SLIGHTLY bending the lips in just a tad) and it works great.5. For the lights: Either buy a 50' spool of white wire and run a ground down each rail OR ENSURE that you have naked metal connections on every step, from the ground wire connection on the tongue all the way back to your tail lights. This means scraping paint UNDER your bolts and nuts where necessary. This will save you tons of time trying to figure out why your lights don't work. (Again, see other reviews)Well... I don't know if that's the DEFINITIVE guide to building one of these but it should go a longs ways in saving you some time and aggravation... and maybe even a trip back to the store or having to order replacement parts! ;)Nice trailer. No vibration at 70MPH (DO NOT EXCEED 55MPH!) ;) Recommend for lighter loads. Cheapest in it's class. Build it carefully and you'll enjoy it.

Structure of the trailer seem to be solid. Assembly was easy. The one problem with the trailer was the hubs. Lug plate was not welded to the hub straight so the tires wobbled. Instead of going to Harbor Freight or haul-Master to get new ones and ending up the two or one defect or maybe both good which could take weeks to get, I went to a locate trailer outlet and picked two USA made hubs of cast iron that were the same size. I would recommend this trailer but remember it is not made in the USA and the quality control seems to be lacing.

Great for small hauls!!

Comments about Haul Master Automotive 1195 Lb. Capacity Heavy Duty Folding Utility Trailer, 48" x 96":
First thing, I'm a female and I put the trailer together with ease. When it got down to the lighting, I had a little trouble with the ground. The only way I could get the lights working right was to ground the wires in the back of the trailer near the rear lights and it worked. I added 3/4" plywood for the bottom and I made some side rails. The trailer hauls great, it's very sturdy and I enjoyed putting it together.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Cheaper than a used trailer
from Shady Valley, TN
About Me Casual Driver, Mechanic
The trailer assembles fairly easily. Have a square handy to true it before tightening down the hardware. The bag of nuts was missing from the box, but my local Harbor Freight sent some out to me 2nd day FedEx.Took me one morning to assemble the frame (haven't added decking yet) I used the wiring that came with it, I haven't tested the lights for issues yet. (Towing laws are pretty relaxed in my area) You will want to be very careful of the wires when folding the trailer. Creative routing and some wire loom/protector should help.I was looking for a used trailer for similar purposes, and this one was cheaper. It may not be as rugged as the others, but for picking up furniture and the occasional building materials its great. Adding plywood decking helps stiffen the frame considerably. It tows very well behind my small sedan (BMW 325xi).The finish of the paint doesn't look like it will hold up too well, so I may add some undercoating or similar. The frame is wet painted, not powder coated like some of the other brands. The folding feature is handy, but what they don't tell you as that there are 4 bolts you are supposed to install when it is in "use mode". These 4 bolts aren't all that easy to get to, so folding it up isn't something you want to be doing daily. The pins in the tongue do allow you to tilt the bed for loading without any issues. All in all, you can't beat it for the money. If you have the weekly flyer its under $300 even after taxes.

I've had this trailer for 7 years, and I still use it to this day. I've used it from moving mattresses to hauling my 500LB motorcycle, and hauling up to the dump. hardly could tell I was even pulling it. Simple design and common sense to install. Will need slight rust work, and repaint, but for 7 years old still holds up.

Works for me

About Me Frugal Cheap Guy, Handy But No Mechanic
I use this trailer to haul around dirt for my rental yard. I have used it to pick up tools (radial arm saws, Table saws and other free Craig's list finds) I have hauled bunk beds and other yard sale finds too. It has more than paid for itself--don't forget the 20% discount when you pick it up. I picked up a bike rack recently and plan on hauling bikes and camping supplies with it too. I have used it mostly around town and it has worked great. The wires have cut themselves when folding up the trailer, and I did have some trouble with the ground system which I fixed by adding a separate ground wire to the lights. I haul it around with a 2001 Honda Civic and had to buy an isolator for the wiring harness on the car side, but no big deal. The license plate keeps bending when I move it, so I may have to redesign that a bit.Read the advice of the reviewers as that was very helpful. I was able to fit the boxes the trailer came in in the Civic sedan when I picked it up at Harbor Freight. Truing the trailer, packing the bearings, shrink wrap/solder the wires....My son and I, he 11 years old, did this over two afternoons, about 8 hours total. It was a fun father/son project. I used 1/2" plywood and painted it with Poly paint; it has held up well for the one year I have been using it.

I purchased this small trailer to haul around my small 10' bass raider boat. I take trips to the Texas coast often and this little trailer has been great! I laid 1/2" treated plywood on the trailer and it works great! It really takes 2 to fold it up to stow in garage or shop. The casters are made of plastic and do not turn or spin very well. The grease zerts on the wheels hubs are made of thin brass and should be replaced with quality steel ones. Both broke off first time I greased the inner bearing. I will also add bearing buddies to the outer hub for additional greasing of the outer bearing.

Great product. Three nights with my two son-in-laws, couldn't be better. Went together well, need to read instructions carefully. Repack wheel bearings before assembly. Square trailer bed before final tightening. Two trips from NJ to Key West with about 600 to 700 lbs. 1200 miles each way, 70 mph. No issues, no problems. Awesome deal. Vineland NJ staff rock.

I assembled this trailer in my garage with a friend in 5hrs. Thats with adding the wooden floor and all of the lighting. The trailer was easy to assemble and I LOVE how it folds in half and takes up little room in my garage. I have owned this trailer for a year and it stills in great condition. I use it to haul my ATV, Snowmobile and other misc. things.

Fantastic value, pulls straight and true
from Cumming GA
About Me Competitive Driver
I bought this trailer to carry my race tires and tools / equipment. I pull it with my Mustang track car and except for a little aditional noise over bumps you can't hardly tell it's there. The trailer has no tendency to sway and tracks perfectly. It took a few evenings to assemble since I soldered all connections, used shrink tubing, wrapped all the wiring in flexible conduits (Cheap at the local parts place), put several coats of urethane varnish on the floor, and used locktite for all bolts without a lock washer. As an added plus, one of the tail lights was cracked from shipping and the super nice manager at the Dunwoody GA store gave me a brand new complete LED light kit as a free replacement. I had a custom tire and toolbox rack made for it, and it is absolutely perfect. I also paid particular attention to the wheel bearings by carefully adjusting and packing them with high quality synthetic grease. I checked the hub and tire temps after several hours of 75+ mph cruising on the interstate and all was barely warm.. (The tires are rated for 87 MPH)The final product is a fantastic little trailer I can pull at 75 + mph all day long with no worries and fold to fit in the garage / shed when not using.

You can't find a better deal
About Me DYI GUY
Trailer is great. Will take time to put together, but take your time and enhance the trailer by getting lock nuts for EVERY joint. You can get by with 1/2 in plywood. CUT OFF THE CORNERS FOR BETTER FOLDING. You will need to know how to assemble and disassemble the wheels to re-grease. For the price you cannot by a mile find anything better. Perfect for the guy who just needs a trailer for occasional use. The folding feature is the main reason I bought the trailer. Use your 20% off and you've got an even better steal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Brilliant design, very effective
from New Boston, NH
I purchased this trailer because I'm tired of paying for delivery charges for mulch, lumber and repair on large lawn machine such as my riding lawn mower.Believe it or not, I was able to get this trailer kit in my two-door Jeep Wrangler with the rear seats removed.Putting this together is like putting together a giant erector set. I was very impressed that nylon locknuts and grade 8 hardware was supplied for it's construction. I put most of it together by myself on the floor of my garage in one night. I added attachment points with wire ties to the wiring. I also soldered the connections and used heat shrink wrap for the connections. I used a 4x8x3/4 pressure-treated plywood (which had to be delivered, for the last time) for the bed. I added 8 trailer tiedown points (from a major home store)for securing any load. I used it a couple of weeks later when we bought a 4x7 pool table. The place we bought it from was about 20 miles away including small rural roads and major highway. I was doing 65mph on Rt 93 on the way home. It was flawless and rode great. My Wrangler towed it like it wasn't there.Afterwords, I folded it up and rolled it into another garage bay next to my boat.I plan to construct the sides as suggested except I am going to try to place the horizontal side rails on the outside so I will maintain the 4x8 interior. I will also have 1/4 inch plywood that I can screw on the inside so I can go get mulch when I need it.The instructions could be clearer. I scanned some of the drawings in the manual and printed them so I would have a larger picture to go by.I don't believe that a better trailer could be had for twice the price.
