Actually, it was a Christmas gift to my now 10-year-old son. Expected it to work well, based on other reviews. Followed the directions explicitly. I'm really upset -- it works BETTER than the one I own. Detected the correct breaker on first try; then when I had my son switch the location of the transmitter, it immediately homed in on that breaker, too. NO mistakes.

It will occasionally mark multiple breakers but it is rare and mostly reliable.

To avoid circuit overloads I wanted to identify which outlets were on which breakers in a classroom at our church. The electrical panel has 42 circuit breakers in it and I sure didn't want to be flipping them all! The Circuit Breaker Detective was able to correctly identify the two circuits the room used. My advice is plug the transmitter directly into the wall outlet - in my experience the receiver picked up the signal that way each time but did not pick up the signal if the transmitter was plugged into an extension cord or outlet strip connected to the same circuit. That didn't make sense to me, but it is easy to work around, making this an all-around handy product!

This is one of those tools which I would not be without. I have had mine for a couple of years, and it always does the job for me. This would be a great gift for almost anyone who owns a home and wants to find out what circuit breaker is attached to which receptacle. This is MUCH better than turning off 20 circuit breakers to find which one is the right one. Even after two years, the original battery still works.

This circuit tracer turned out to be better than expected. I use it every day and it has saved alot of time and agravation. It locates the correct breaker every time, and has a feature which turns it off automatically when it is not being used which saves on battery life. For the price, it can't be beat.

Totally agree with the other reviews. The only complaint I have is the button to switch it on/off it is activated too easily. This is a minor flaw though. I am more than satisfied with this tool.

I have used this and it works great. I have a 2 prong screw in adapter with a 2 prong to 3 prong adapter to use in a light socket to locate them. A very good investment.
