Have had this meter for several years now. Reliable, reasonably accurate, simple to use, durable...everything you could want in a clamp on meter.
Oh wait, I do not believe mine is backlit. That could come in handy every now and again.

This clamp-on meter appears to work very well although I just received it today so I can't speak to it's durability. I am giving it 5 stars for it's value. At this price, it would be hard to beat.

I compared resistance readings to readings I get with my Cen-Tech digital multimeter and also my friend's Fluke DMM and the readings were all virtually identical. Voltage readings were almost identical to my Cen-Tech DMM. I did not compare amp readings, though, but the readings I got made sense. I used a AC line splitter to make the amp readings.

There is an external jack and a switch position for an optional insulation tester but Harbor Freight does not appear to sell that device and I could not find it anywhere else. No big deal.

Please note that if you find that you don't get resistance readings, just press the "hold" button and that should fix it. If that button was pressed to turn on hold or pressed accidentally and not pressed again, you will not get a reading. This may apply to voltage and amps too but I didn't check. For a minute, I thought the resistance function didn't work but it was just that the hold button was pressed.

Like others have mentioned, this works well. I haven't used it for non-ammeter functions, as I have other meters than that for those reasons.

I just verified this against a KiloWatt meter for lower power functions and it's quite good - I tested a 40 watt light bulb and saw some differences (43 Watt meter, .2A @ 125V ammeter) - but this is pulling teeth at such low currents. Another test for small ceramic heater gave 1440 W kwatt meter, 12.0A @ 125.5V) which is 97% accurate assuming the kilowatt_meter is accurate.

Note to others : it seems better readings are obtained when bringing the AC cable closer to the right side of the loop from my tests :: where the orange current loop meets the brown meter casing.

Cannot speak to reliability yet, but will followup if I have issues.

Excellent clamp meter though a bit weak instructions.


If you will be using this meter to check "plug in" items, you will need a line splitter such as Extech's AC Line Splitter so that you may measure the single hot side current draw of the circuit.

After buying and using mainly as an ammeter I also started using the voltage testing functions of this great instrument. Using this meter along with two friend (at seperate times) has led me to giving both of them the currently used meter on the spot. They were very thankful. At the really low price for this caliber of testing I don't mind sharing with friends. The carry case allows me to add clips which come in handy. You can't go wrong with this clamp meter even if it were twice the price. Buy two, you won't regret it.

I use my meter daily for work in every application imaginable. It is reliable and precise. I only wish the continuity piezo was a bit louder.

As a "Master Electrician", reliable tools are a must have in the field. This is an excellent tool, especially, when troubleshooting electrical "AC Amp Loads". "Excellent tool for the price".
