Comments about General Purpose Rope Hoist:

I own three of these hoists for lifting and storing kayaks in the rafters of my garage. Since the heaviest boat is under 70 pounds they are adequate for that purpose. I would NEVER presume to use them at their "rated" 500 pounds.

For the price and my requirements, they're OK, but even at under 100 lbs to lift, I've replaced hoist ropes and pulley axle nuts (the nuts had an alarming tendency to spin themselves off. Changing out these components is pretty cheap and you might as well plan on it from the start.

These units do provide mechanical advantage in a lift, but given the price, one should have pretty minimal expectations. Although I would recommend these, it would largely be conditioned on a few upgrades.

I still don't know if this is going to work for my project. The manual does not specify the diameter of the hole in the safety hooks. The holes are too small for the eye bolts I have. I called the phone number listed on the instruction sheet. The customer service person was also unable to find the information I need. She gave me.a different phone number for technical support. I called and was pn hold for a long time waiting for an agent. When I finally got one on the line, he didn't know the answer either, put me back on hold, and after another wait, the call was cut off.

purchased 2 of these to hoist stuff into attic, upon opening 1st package I noticed that the rope was rather lite, I checked the rope out and found that it had a LOT of frayed /broken strands in it over 1/2 and that's conservative. I took it back and got a 2nd one I had the same issue.

The second i tried lifting 200 pounds the plastic wheeles fell apart. I wasnt so sure about the 500 pound rating but now i know the actual ratings about much much less.

Used 2 of these to lift 400 Lb beam. Figured at 200 Lb/end had 150% safety margin. Felt better when product stamped 2000 Lb limit. No way. Nylon pulley wheels began to fail fairly quickly. Finally one jammed with beam half way up. Fine for small stuff, but I would not try to lift anything over 100 lbs again, and even then only with a plan "B."

While this may be great for very small applications it will not lift 500 lbs as stated. I'd say about 100 lbs is the limit to use this product with reasonable force. If you need to lift something larger than 100 lbs I'd reccomend a chain hoist instead.

Tried to lift a 400 Lb plant into position. The plastic pulley wheels quickly got destroyed when it had less than full weight on. If factory spent another $2 on metal wheels this would be a decent product and OK if cost was a bit higher.

This hoist constantly twists due to the type of rope used and the nuts came off of 3 of the bolts. I replaced the nuts with self locking ones and the rope with a non-twisted style. This also does not have a way to lock the rope in position. I would say to buy the parts individually and you would be better off.
