Hotest day of year so far, have a brick house in new jersey, unit allowed me to identify hot spots inside and outside house ( wash down to cool brick). With a 90 day warranty, I could care less if it fails ( bought with a 20% off )

Purchased it to measure the temp of the engine block of my outboard motors, Weather was cold (between 20 to 32 degrees F) but I found how hot the block was and able to repair my overheating problem. Thanks

This thing is great! - But if it has a backlight, it's not addressed in the operator's manual and I haven't figured out how to engage it.

This thermometer works very well, and is very accurate. I use it in my garage where every thing is hot. Engine parts. Driveway area. The floor of the garage. The roof of the garage.. Hey, guess what. They were right. Heat rises. Floor 89.3 degrees. Roof 119.6 degrees. And I have several mercury thermometers on the wall. When you take the temperature next to each of three thermometers, the reported temperature on this thing is within tenths of a degree of an actual mercury thermometer. I'm very impressed.

I've been using these for years. I've given them as gifts. Got one as a backup just in time for me to drop test my orignal one. Wow, just in time!
Accuracy: I initially was sceptical, but I've gown to trust it. It takes a while to understand that you are getting the temperature of the light reflected from an object, and not the air around it. Aim it at a glass of water, you'll get the temperature of something behind it. Play with it for a while.
In the summer I put fans in the windows, in the morning I use the IR thermometer to check the temperature of the window sill. When it gets close to the temp of the inside of the house, I put the fans away and close up the house. You get instant readings.
I use the IR thermometer when I cook. 140 to 150 degrees is just right for serving. Your guests don't catch you sticking your finger in the soup, and you don't burn your tongue. When I use the electric griddle, I use the IR thermometer to see when it is up to temperature. Did you know the setting on a griddle can easily drop 50 degrees.

I also have the bigger IR laser and the smaller one without a laser. The laser is not part of the temperature measuring system, it only shows where you are aiming it. I usually use the thermometer wihout needing the laser, but when you are upstairs, half asleep, checking a window temperature in the morning and not getting readings that make sense, look for the red dot...I'll bet it is about five feet away from where you think you are aiming. The little IR thrmometer without the laser is ok, but it temperature range isn't high enough for the griddle. I keep the big IR thermometer at work, I don't think it is as accurate as the little laser. The tech's borrow it to track down overheating power supplies.

I use this to check the temp of the tires on my drag car. Helps us dial in the correct pressure. Works as it should.

Like many less expensive non-contact thermometers,it's accuracy is effected trimendously by the temperature stability of the device. If you have it in a room that is always the same temp, it's accurate. If you take it out of your pocket, it's probably not accurate because your pocket is warmer than the temperature outside your pocket. If you take it anywhere it needs about 30 minutes to aclimate to the new temperature.
