I've had mine for years and used it off and on. With no trouble. I messed up the other day and put in one of those new 3.7 Volt batteries (AA sized rechargeable for 100 lumen CREE LED lights you can spend $40 on at Ebay)plus a normal AA. Needless to say the light bulb burned out. Duh, 3.7 + 1.5 = 5.2 volts on a 3V bulb. Whoops. Well, before I threw the thing away I opened it up to be sure it wasn't fixable. I unscrew the plastic lens, the refractor / reflector comes right out and what do I find but 1 burned out bulb and a replacement right above it. Yep, these have (or at least mine does) the installed bulb and a replacement. They are "push pin" bulbs so you can just pull the bad one, remove the new one from it's factory holder, push it in, put back together and good as new. No tools required. The face unscrews by hand. A spare part that isn't advertised on the package, or the website. BONUS!!! So I had to 5 star something that works well and comes with secret bonus spare parts. Also, the fact that the batteries are are not installed in the light inside the original package prevents long term storage from damaging the flashlight with corrosive old battery puke. You may have dead batteries in 5 years but you will still have a good light (if left in original packaging). For those nerds like me who just can't leave well enough alone. A 5mm 3.6v 20,000 mcd clear white LED fit's right in and gives great light. Remove factory bulb, with reflector already installed, cut leads on LED to .5" or so narrow and straighten (like original bulb pins) put in pin receptacles and test. If no light flip LED (only works one way). If it lights congrats!! This opens the door to all the 3.6V 5MM Leds (yellow flashing, RWB fast flash, and so on). One for each day of the week.

My first headlight was a fairly bright Rayovak that came with a diffusion screen that rotated in or out of the light. That unit worked awesome for several years of diy stuff. Recently, however, the swivel broke and it won't hold the aim. Unfortunately, that model has not been available for quite awhile. So, I have been in the headlight market for awhile. I am predominantly interested in brightness and diffusion. For auto mechanics and other diy stuff like working under the sink I need a flood light with lots of diffusion. So far I have accumulated 5 headlights and none of them really add up to the utility of my old Rayovak...sob sob sob.. I compared 5 headlights for brightness and diffusion. I went into a mostly dark pantry room and compared the lights at about 2 feet from a wall.Old Rayo 3 star brightness, 4 star diffusion (with diffusion thingy in light) It ran on one AA battery – I liked that simplicity even if I did have to replace the battery a little more often. I'd say it would run on high for 6 hours. Considering a battery costs about a quarter, that's minimal operating expense IMHO. The battery was also easy to replace even in drunken pitch dark. The cap had a tether so you wouldn't lose it, and it twisted off without any snaps, clips or other mechanical contraptions.New Rayo Sportsman 5 star brightness, 4 star diffusion. This has an intense spot light and a lot of flood light. The flood light is as good as the old rayo. I tore the diffusion thingy off the old rayo and held it in front of the new rayo sportsman. That helped spread the spot light, but it also dimmed the flooded light. This has a swivel and functions about as well as the old rayo. The battery cover is annoying compared to the old rayo, but I'll have to live with that, because I need the quality of the light from this one.5 LED harbor freight, blue body, blck strap, 3AAA, Gordon brand. HAS NO SWIVEL. The lack of a swivel kills the utility of this. The fact that it's aimed down at 45 degrees would only work for somebody who's head is pointed up and eyes down. Hahahahaha! It gets 3 stars for brightness and 1 star for diffusionGordon harbor freight yellow and blck with swivel lens. This gets 1 star for brightness and 1 star for diffusion. The price gets 5 stars. I do like the on/off switch and the swivel and the strap. I like having a headlight in my vehicle, but I have three vehicles. So I bought three of these and put one in each vehicle. I don't use the ones in my vehicles much. Brinkman. 2led. I have no idea where I got this. It gest 2 stars for brightness and one star for diffusion. It's only marginally better than the cheap yellow one from harbor, and I think it was $10-15.

I added the nite ize 3-led upgrade bulb for a 2-AA mini maglite.I had to increase the hole in the reflector to 5/8" so it would fit over the bulb holder.Talk about bright,it is bright, will definitely leave you seeing spots.

Used this while ridding my house of a bat infestation. Wore while on a ladder two stories up at night, while blocking and filling the crack that the bats used to access my attic. Of course this had to be done AFTER they flew out at twilight, as I didn't want to seal them in and end up with an attic full of bat mummies. The band was comfortable and held its place well with no sense of movement. It's inexpensive and there may be superior products out there but for the price this is fantastic. The light was bright enough to see a good distance when I was on the ground, but this would not be the best light for spelunking. It certainly didn't feel like it was too cheaply made to be worth it, but rather, just right for what I needed. Reasonably sturdy and effective.

This was the first of my Harbor Freight lights, and I modified it to mount upon my helmet. I am an avid bicyclist, and particularly enjoy pedaling before Sunrise/after Sunset. Why? Because I have multiple battery-powered lights, both flashing and steady beam, mounted on my Doublevision tandem recumbent and helmet, most of them from Harbor Freight. Visibility is the single greatest factor in road safety for ALL vehicles upon our excellent highways and byways; Harbor Freight lights give me a feeling of safety that is even unmatched by designated bike lanes or a segregated bikeway! I highly recommend Harbor Freight lights to everybody who want a surefire system of lighting!

About Me Professional
I am a New York City paramedic, my mother gave me one of these lights a while back and I threw it in my jump bag at work and forgot it was there. Recently after hurricaine sandy hit the city and power in many of our high rise housing projects was out I remembered that I had it. It was a life saver LITERALLY!!! treating sick injured people and carrying them down in absolute darkness is impossible but wearing this light I was able to do all of this while keeping both hand free. My coworkers envied me for my hands free light. I will be purchasing more of these lights for work and personal home use and for the price I can buy as many as I like. Thank you harbor freight.

Best bargain in a headlamp
By Desert Dweller
from Phoenix, AZ
By far the best bargain in a headlamp that I have seen, especially at HF's sale price (and I have tried a lot of headlamps)! Not the brightest, but not the dimmest either. I like that it takes standard AA batteries, and even comes with them. Okay, the standard batteries aren't great, but at the price HF sells this item for, they are practically disposable. Yes, they are made of cheap plastic (although they so far are holding up well), and the bulb isn't an LED bulb, but this is still a bargain. My only worry is that the screws that hold the light at your chosen angle might loosen up over time, and then the lamp might flop around a bit. But that has yet to happen. Still, and excellent purchase. I have purchased more than half a dozen of these. Put one in each car, one in the kitchen drawer, one in my portable tool box, one in my camping backpack, etc. You never know when you might need one, and the price is cheap enough to buy several.

I bought several of these lights over the years and keep at least one in each vehical. they work well once you put better batteries in them. even with alot of abuse I have only burned out a couple bulbs, for the price I cant beat them
Bought these for hunting great little lights. The batteries that came with them not so good, but put in energizers works great. Great hands free all around light. Did get get them on sale great price. I will buy more as they go on sale.
