I bought this saw a few years ago,and at first I found a lot of uses for it.However once the blade binds, you will strip the drive gear.I ordered 6 new ones and all were plastic.Went thru those and ordered a couple more.Got one that was aluminum.Installed that. However now the blade slides off the wheels and has ground a groove into the guides.Never used it all that much, and since the initial uses, its been nothing but trouble.I bought a HF sawzall, and now use it instead.Works excellent compared to this.Overall a disappointing tool.It has so much potential if they would beef up the parts and not be so cheap about it.

Money Very Well Spent

By JeffG

Comments about Chicago Electric Power Tools Portable Variable Speed Bandsaw:

I bought this saw to do a stair and balcony spindle project in my home. I cut 325 5/8 square steel stair spindles with no problems. I replaced the stock blade with a Doall 8-10 vari pitch bi metal blade and cut all 325 pcs. Some with multiple cuts.

Money very well spent, much cleaner and easier than an abrasive chop saw for this project. And it's still working!!

Good light-duty saw.

By Gunther O.

Comments about Chicago Electric Power Tools Portable Variable Speed Bandsaw:

The saw works great on thin metal 1/8" thick or less. I tried to cut 1/4" steel with it but the blade kept binding - even with lubricant. The ring gears used to be made out of plastic and the teeth kept breaking but, the last set of replacements that I ordered were made out of metal so, it looks like they made some improvements to the design. I only use it a few times a year so, I don't need anything heavy-duty.

Comments about Chicago Electric Power Tools Portable Variable Speed Bandsaw:

the saw is great, but where do you get a replacement blade? the blade for the

saw requires a 44 7/8 blade, the blade that harbor freight sells is 44 1/2..

trust me there is no way to get that blade on. i have 6 blades that i cant use.

Might want to spend more 'cause it WILL break

By Joseph

from Undisclosed

Comments about Chicago Electric Power Tools Portable Variable Speed Bandsaw:

Purchased this for a steel fence project. Did have a problem with the motor, plenty strong enough and cuts well with Milwalkee blades. The saw blade wore the aluminum housing at the roller guide located at the back on the saw, underneath the cover, and the blade would not remain on the drive wheel, kept sliding off. If you are going to use this saw for a big job or in a trade spend the extra cash for a more well build unit...

Comments about Chicago Electric Power Tools Portable Variable Speed Bandsaw:

I used a coupon for this saw, not as smooth running as name brand saws but works just as good. I am vary happy with it. Give it four stars because the saw is bit loud . Worth every penny I paid for it.
